Sitemaps 101 – Benefits of and Tips on Designing a Sitemap

Have you ever wondered how a search engine works? It must be fascinating figuring out how this search tool could direct you to several websites that are relevant to your keywords. Or, have you experienced instances where the link that supposedly contains your keywords is not exactly what you have in mind? You would probably think that there must be something wrong with the search engine that it generated irrelevant results.

How does a search engine work? Two things figure greatly in making search engines work effectively and efficiently: the electronic search spider and the sitemap.

What is a sitemap? A sitemap is basically a page or pages that serve/s as a directory by listing all the links to all documents and files found in a website. It is not merely a random listing of links, but organized in such a way that it gives the web user an idea of how all the information that can be found in the site fits into an outline or framework. It is like viewing the table of contents of a book, or viewing the “concept map” of the site’s content.

What is a spider? In SEO language, spider is not an animal found in your closet. This electronic search spider is actually a bot which collects data and copies content to be stored in the search engine’s database when keywords are fed into the search dialogue box. The spider reads the content of the site and sends another bot to follow the links and copy the content contained in them.

What purpose does a sitemap serve? A sitemap like any other map gives directions to a navigator. It primarily targets search engine spiders so that they are properly directed to your site and to the links where keywords entered in the search dialogue appears. As such, it is actually a useful tool in search engine optimization. A well organized site map would guide the spider to find the information it needs when keywords are entered during a search operation.

As an additional beneficial consequence, sitemaps have proven to be useful even to web users. Since a sitemap displays all the links to information found in a website, it helps the user to search for a particular topic in mind. Many users also use the sitemap to navigate between pages in a site.

What are the benefits of having a sitemap for my website?

1.No page would be left unturned Going back to the purpose of sitemaps, having one would mean faster and easier tracking and crawling of spiders all over your site. As a result, search engines would surely get to the view all the pages of your site and not just the pages containing random keywords.

2.Easier navigation for site visitors Once a web user has accessed your sitemap, they need not go back to the search engine page to look for what they need. If what they are looking for is in your site, then they would have an easier and faster way of locating it.

3.Potential advertising value If it so happens that a relevant product or service company reaches your site, then it would be easier for them to see how best they can position themselves in the different pages of your site as a paid page advertisement.

4.Encourage greater traffic to your site If your company website has a sitemap then potential buyers would have an easier time in accessing your latest products and services. Moreover, they would not miss out on any product that might be off future interest to them since the sitemap would display all information found the site.

How are sitemaps formatted? There are at least three major types of sitemaps: indexed, full categorical, and restricted categorical. An indexed site map appears as an alphabetical listing or directory. A full categorical map displays all links classified into categories; while a restricted categorical sitemap displays all links listed in a chosen category at a time. The full and restricted sitemaps are very similar except that the former displays all links in all categories all at once in a page, while the latter focuses only the links under the selected category for easier and less eye-straining viewing.

The most widely used format is the full categorical. Based on the results of a 1999 SURL study on sitemap designs, the full categorical format is most preferred by users since it is easier to search for topics within the site and it allows easier comparison between and among categories.

Some tips in setting up your sitemap

1.Link the sitemap only to your homepage. This is to ensure that the spider starts searching from your homepage down to all the pages listed in your sitemap. In this way, no page would be left unvisited by the spider.

2.Do not go beyond 30 pages for a sitemap. Large websites having 50 or more pages should not go beyond 30 since this adds more pages to the site, and might make search engines think that the sitemap is a link farm. Also, this prevents overcrowding of links which could be tiring to view.

3.Check all the links listed in your sitemap. It can be discouraging when you click on a link only to find out that nothing is displayed. Test your sitemap; click all links in every page to make sure that all links are indeed linked to the right page.

4.Give keyword-rich titles to sitemap links. Keyword-rich titles give your site more advantage in being searched properly under the right category. But be sure to have this sitemap link linked back to the sitemap (e.g. back to sitemap).

5.Provide a short description for the links in the sitemap. Doing so would give readers a better idea of what to find in the link and save them time on surfing.

6.Be consistent in designing your sitemap with the other pages of the site. Employ a recurring design and the same HTML template for all pages to establish identity and build character to your website.

Now that you have learned basic things about sitemaps, maybe it is time for you to build one for your site.

Main Arenas for Starting Up a New Website

Selecting a domain name – Domain name provides an identity to a website. It confirms your space on the internet as it denotes the name of your website that is entered by a user in search box to land on your site. For instance- yahoo.com, sujivan.org, usa.net and so on. Usually the user should opt for a domain name that ends with .com, .net or, org. These are the most common extensions used by the surfers. Many companies offer domain names at discounted rate, so keep an eye on online discounts if you want to purchase domain name at discounted price.

Web Hosting – Every website that is being launched requires a web hosting for database support and web application. Many service providers offer free web hosting service, this should be avoided and instead go for companies providing this service by taking some nominal monthly fees. Otherwise chances of the host offering free web hosting to put up their banner on your site is there which may prove harmful for your business. If the user does not have much traffic they can go for shared hosting and when increases switch on to solo web hosting traffic.

Website design and development – Next step is to hire a professional web designer to design your site. Take a note that the designer should have knowledge of HTML which is basic requirement for web designing. If you desire increased traffic to your site make sure that it is pleasant looking, fast downloadable and dynamic. Once web design part is complete then move for website development. Hire a professional web developer to develop advance functionality of your website.

Content creation – Content management and creation is one of the most important aspects of any website. It can be considered as heart of any site, as relevant information, goals, objectives, discussions, etc fall under the content category. Can you imagine any website without content? Not possible, it’s the backbone of every site whether personal or commercial. The content should be to the point and relevant, devoid of any grammatical errors.

Search engine optimization – To get increased traffic to your website, it is essential that it is visible in first or second page of major search engines like Google, msn and yahoo. This can be done by search engine optimization of certain keywords that the user is likely to enter in the search box. Higher rank in the search engine lands more visitors at your website. You can hire an SEO expert or give this work to your web development company who has this facility.

Thus these were certain essential key steps for starting up a successful website. These are followed by other website enhancing tools like online marketing, multimedia designs, graphics, flash, ecommerce web design, database application, logo design and website maintenance.

Get your Cms to Hit the Targets you Want

With more than a thousand Content Management System (CMS) vendors, organizations face tough choices navigating the tricky waters of technology. A CMS solution that is perfect for a large company may be ineffective for an SMB as it has no use for features that are used extensively by a larger enterprise.

Buying a CMS is similar to buying Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions – you need to clearly evaluate your organization’s needs and then map them to make an informed choice. Once you succeed in identifying a CMS solution, how will you ensure that it simplifies your work as promised? What measures will you use to show your leadership team that the CMS will provide good ROI?

Before beginning a CMS implementation, it is extremely important to identify the key business goals that must be achieved. Without this clear vision of the objective, CMS implementations are almost sure to fail. In this context, it is not surprising to find that most CMS implementations often overshoot budgets and timelines, and over their lifetime consume far more time, energy, and resources just to stay functional that you ever imagined.

Organizational goals are diverse – but we can take a look at some common business objectives that must figure on your checklist before a CMS implementation.

Goal #1: Improve Business Responsiveness

In an intensely competitive world, organizations must be able to quickly update their Websites as soon as a new product or service is launched. In this scenario, organizations need the capability to accelerate content publishing, and provide subject matter experts (SMEs) with tools that are simple to use. Content specialists must be able to focus more on creating content – and not let content control them.

For example, consider the marketing arm of a technology services firm that has just found out from its sales team that –

1. there is a big SAP implementation services contract coming up
2. the company awarding the contract is checking vendor Websites to evaluate capabilities before drawing up a shortlist

In normal circumstances, the marketing team would have hurriedly asked the developers to put up a few links to SAP whitepapers (usually hidden inside the site) on the home page. If the same company had a Web content management system, the SMEs could have created a microsite with content tailored to showcase SAP capabilities. The ease of uploading content will also allow the same team to put up more recently created whitepapers on this microsite. In situations like this where time is of the essence, a user friendly CMS is invaluable.

Similarly, if SMEs feel that a particular content – such as a whitepaper on the Website – must capture email addresses of the people who download it, they can easily create a form using the content management tool, and ensure collection of this data. The email addresses can then become part of a lead generation exercise, used by the organization to sell specific services to users according to the type of whitepaper downloaded. Further, if a marketing person feels the need to run a campaign showcasing RFID capabilities, he can easily create a microsite within the main Website, and provide an in-depth overview of his company’s capabilities. It is clear, therefore, that ease of use in this scenario can actually drive business efficiencies and opportunities.

Goal# 2: Improve Branding

An organization’s image in the marketplace is a combination of multiple factors, out of which–the Website–is clearly one of the most influential. A simple mistake such as a non-existent link on a company Website can mean a missed business opportunity. The chosen Website CMS must enable the organization to maintain link integrity – thereby significantly reducing the chance of users reporting a missing link.

The CMS must also give the organization the capability to maintain consistency across all pages of its Website (with style sheets, templates, etc.) so that branding and design are controlled to the level desired, regardless of who is responsible for the actual content.

As a result, visitors can have a consistent and professional experience on a Website managed through an effective CMS.

Goal # 3: Improve Quality of Information

The CMS must enhance the organization’s ability to improve the quality of information by giving it the capability to deliver content that is updated, comprehensive and validated by SMEs. A Website CMS must have intelligent workflow automation, and ensure that content passes through appropriate quality gates before being published. For instance, ensuring that files can be given a full document lifecycle, including check-in, check-out, versioning, rollback, approvals, and scheduling.

The CMS should support configurable workflows that enable organizations to assign tasks to any person, and escalate in case defined thresholds are crossed. For example, the CMS must automatically send email alerts to content owners of specific sections on a Website, if these sections are not updated after a specific time period.

Goal # 4: Reuse content

In a digital world where content can be creatively used in a variety of forms such as whitepapers, podcasts or articles, effectively managing and using this content is critical for competitive advantage. However, the same content present in multiple mediums, across different business units can create silos of unmanageable information – and increase maintenance costs.

Organizations must encourage content reuse by reducing duplicate content and storing each kernel of content only once. An efficient CMS can help find and tag content assets from a single point of control. This centralized control medium also means that the organization can effectively measure the success of its various online marketing initiatives.

Goal # 5: Take Advantage of New Communication Media

The Web 2.0 audience demands an interface that is functionally rich, easy to use, and publishes content quickly. You would not want to frustrate an audience that is used to sites such as Flickr or Blogger. Adding complex content posting rules on your company’s blog will only alienate your would-be listeners. Further, different forms of metadata such as ‘rating’ or ‘tagging’ by voters introduce new layers of complexity in managing content.

Additional challenges in content management arise due to multiple device types. Organizations that follow a manual content updating style, or have a CMS that tightly binds content and structure, will be at a distinct disadvantage when publishing content to different formats. Hence, organizations must look to a CMS that enables and facilitates easy creation of content that caters to multiple mediums and audiences from a single source, for example; publishing of digital assets like audio and video files, and simplify the process of publishing the XML associated with the Podcast RSS feed.

Goal # 6: Improve Productivity

To improve productivity of key content specialists or SMEs, choose a CMS that allows even non-technical users to contribute and update content on a Website from anywhere, using just an Internet connection. Choose a CMS that encourages SMEs to experiment with the presentation of their content. For instance, enforcing design with, navigation schemes, and the presentation of content through standardized presentation templates. These templates ensure that the content presentation, titling and linking are arranged in a way that enables even non-technical staff to easily update content.

Productivity can also be enhanced by giving SMEs the ability to search and quickly identify digital assets that are present in the organization. Content owners can thus save valuable time in creating content that is already present.

Conclusion

Like sails driving a ship, goals are vital for content management. Using the right metrics can add further control and boost effectiveness. For example, ‘business responsiveness’ can be measured by the organization’s ability to quickly update its Website as soon as new products or services are launched. Other metrics used to gauge success of CMS goals can include Web usage statistics, turnaround time for publishing new material or implementing changes, customer satisfaction, development time for new pages, and cost of training. Having a clear vision of what the CMS has to achieve can turn the direction of change in an organization’s favor, and make it better equipped to maximize CMS potential.

Website Planning

Before creating a site you need to sketch future site’s small plan? That should consist of the following:

1. Site’s idea

It often happens that people want to have their own web resource but have no clear ideas about what the site should be about. Without having a clear idea of the site there’s no sense in continuing with this site. That’s why in the very beginning you should define the idea and the topic of the resource. It’s up to you to decide whether it will be your company’s corporate website or an information portal about playing chess.

2. Site’s target audience

Prior to creating design, making up services and writing content think for whom you are doing this. What exactly do your visitors need and why do they need it? For example, if you want to create your company’s site think what visitors will be looking for, what information will help them to choose between your goods and services, which information will help them to find out what they re interested in, and also which services on your site will help them to get support from your company’s employees.

3. Site’s name

OK, so what kind of name should your site have?

First of all it should be short, simple and easy to remember. Assume that this name will be published in ads and on banners. This is why it shouldn’t be long.

It’s a good idea to name the site just as your company (if you have one ) is named. In order the visitor memorized the name of your resource, make it easy to percept and associate with the site’s topic. If you want to increase the level of site’s relevancy, include a keyword into its name.

4. Design

While creating the sites design think about its specialization and topic. For example, some official organization’s site should have a very tailored design, the site of a flower shop should be bright and colorful. Also think out how your logo should look like as it will be situated on the main page of your site.

5. Content

Website’s content consists of pictures, articles, files for viewing and downloading (videos and Flash games) Think what interests your future visitors the most. Analyze if they need a complete description of your goods and services, pictures of these goods, price lists, additional information and so on.

6. Result.

Now when you clearly know what you want, you can apply to experienced web designers and ask them to realize your ideas thoroughly

8 Reasons Why you Should Have your Own Site

Your business is successful even without a website? Everyday the competition and the whole economy itself is getting tougher and tougher and even the smallest advantage you can have over your competitor matters. To be able to compete your business should at least have what the competitors have. Such thing as a helpful website can help you attract new and retain old customers. In this computer edge your business can’t be as successful without a website as it could be having one. A website is one of the easiest and the cheapest ways to market and to promote your business.

1. Establishing online presence. The average internet surfer may stumble across your website while looking for some products or services in the search engines. Your business’ web presence means an opportunity to be found in search engines.

2. Differentiating from competitors. If your competitors have website and you don’t chances are potential clients surfing the web in order to find a suitable product or service and a company providing them will likely apply to your competitors. If your competitors don’t have a website you will surely get advantage over them.

3. Informing customers about your company and its products/services and letting them know you are keeping with the today’s Internet world.

4. Additional sales. A website is like your own store that is open 24/7 where users can ask questions, read the information and pick products or services they need in the comfort of their own home.

5. Free advertising. You don’t need to spend much money on printing colorful brochures about your company, all you need is to put your website’s address on them and clients will find anything they want on it. Unlike the physical ad your website is unlimited space where you can give as much information as you want.

6. Expanding customer base. When you establish a website, your customer base becomes global. Now you can do business not only with customers from the city where you are based!

7. Automating work for your employees. Having a website can reduce the number of calls that come to find out some information and the time spent by your employees on explaining the advantages of your products and services. All kinds of information can be published on your site. Some part of accounting and calculation work can be transmitted to your site’s admin system.

Website Navigation

Importance of a navigation scheme
One of the most important tasks when developing your website is creating a navigation system that is effective and easy to use. People have a tendency to try to include everything in the navigation tree all at once. Instead they should follow the same process as setting up the structure for the site and break it down in levels. This would be information relevant to the homepage that directs visitors to the main sections of the site. From the main sections of the site, the user gains access to the sub sections containing content pertinent to that section only. Remember to always include links back to the main sections and your homepage on every page in your site. While you are creating your navigation setup, try to look through your user’s eyes. Remember, you are the one creating the structure, so you are biased in your opinions. If you think about what someone else might say or do, then you are one step ahead of the game.

As you create you website navigation, make sure that links can be added in the future with no difficulty. You must always keep in mind that your site must be flexible and open to change because it is never completed. All links should be clear and to the point. It makes no sense to have your visitor try to figure out where they are going. They should be able to quickly look for what they want and then access it in a timely and efficient method. There is a better chance of a visitor going somewhere else if it takes too long for them to find the information they are looking for. Your navigation scheme should stick out and be located in a common spot on every page of your site. Consistency allows your visitors to focus on the content instead of trying to figure another navigation system for the same site.

Linear navigation
Linear navigation provides the same capabilities as your forward and back button on your browser. With this navigation style, you cannot jump around and skip pages. Reading a book or viewing a PowerPoint presentations are also examples of linear navigation. As you read through the pages, it makes no sense to jump around or you might miss an important piece of information. People who create sites with this style often are directing the visitor from a starting point to a predetermined end in a step by step fashion. Your links will not allow the user to anywhere other than where you want.

Hierarchical navigation
Hierarchical navigation allows the visitor to go from a homepage to the main sections of your site and then to the subsections. Visitors can travel through your site without any restrictions. This type of navigation ties all the areas of your site together so any page can be accessed from another in as few clicks as possible. Hierarchical navigation is best used on sites that are filled with information and to be utilized like a library.

Sitemaps for navigating through your website
Sitemaps provide a list of organized links to the content of your website. The same way a table of contents tells you what is inside a book, a sitemap does the same for your website. Your visitors are given a one page view of the information structure that your site is based on. Sitemaps are not meant to be your websites primary navigation but more as a compliment to it.

Navigation bars
A navigation bar gives your visitors the ability to move between the different sections of your website. It should be placed on every page of your site and should be consistent as well. Placement of the navigation bar is entirely up to you. The navigation bar can go on the left side of your page because most people read from left to right. It can also be placed on the top of your page so it is the first thing your visitors see. Some people place it on the right hand side of the page intentionally making a visitor browse through content to then be able to navigate the rest of the site.

Theme and navigation links
The theme for a website is created with the way you use color, fonts and images. During the theme creation process, remember to not clutter your pages with unnecessary content that will draw your visitor’s attention from the main content. There are many ways to create a theme. One example might be a newspaper look consisting of black and white colors with a plain font. Themes give a website character and often leave a strong visual impression on the visitor. Your website theme needs to be used on all your pages which helps tie your site together.

Navigation
Navigation of a website should be an easy process and not require the visitor to take much time in figuring out how to move through your site. Visitors have come to your site looking for information and should be able to find it easily. If a visitor has to waste time figuring out how to get what they want, they will go to another site. Navigation is not just for people, but search engines as well. Set up the navigation to allow search engines to follow the links to index your entire website. Your navigation scheme should appear in the same place on all pages. When a visitor navigates through your site, make sure they can flow through it. Do not set it up so a visitor has to use the back button of the browser to access another page. Through navigation, your visitor will have access to pages in your site, to other sites and to different sections of the pages on your site. You will need to place navigation menus in more than one area on your pages. There are many good ways to help the visitor move through your site. The most simple is a text link. The next is a navigation bar placed on the top or sides. Another is the use of graphic buttons created to help compliment the overall look of your site. It is always good idea is to include links at the bottom of your page in case someone does not feel like scrolling back to the top. Through navigation, your visitor should be able to get where they want quickly, know where they currently are on your site and be able to access other pages on your site for additional information.

Web 2.0 – Web Site Design Tips

When it comes to effective web site design as part of your Web 2.0 efforts, a couple of things need to be kept in mind. If you want your website to be stunning and effective, here are some web 2.0 web design tips to help you get started.

    * Keep it simple

Having too many features can take away from the central purpose of the site. That doesn’t imply bare, simple design. Instead it means using the minimum features required to achieve your objective. As part of quality custom web design you need to ensure this.

    * Central positioning

When your web site design is built centrally it is more likely to give out an honest impression of your brand. Besides the brand messaging, it also is far more easy on your budget as you need lesser pixels or content.

    * Less number of columns
The fewer columns you use, the more readability you infuse into your website. If you are hiring high quality web designers they will quickly tell you that cramming too much information on a page is always a bad idea.

    * Making navigability easy

You don’t want your website visitors to keep hunting for information on your site! Any section on web 2.0 web design tips will advise you to keep navigation obvious and easy to reach.

    * Text size

As a way of infusing better readability it is also important to have bigger sized text. As part of good website design tips you can highlight important elements with a larger font size.

    * Differentiating sections

You can also employ the usage of bright colors as part of your custom web design. This can help demarcate areas on the site and make it easier for readers to understand different sections.

    * Rich aesthetic appeal

You want your site to look stunning. As part of that effort your web site design need to use good quality aesthetic elements. Aspects like drop shadows or reflections can really help jumpstart the look and feel of your website!

    * Self explanatory icons

Why you Should Have a Website

If one more person asks you, “what’s your website address?” you can politely tell them, www.i_dont_have_one.com. After all, building a website is not on your list of priorities and with all of the costs of doing business, why should you spend money on a website when you don’t “need one?”
As the owner of a website design company in Tampa Bay, I can give you 10 Reasons Why You Should Have a Website:
1. Marketing
A website is a great way to compliment your existing marketing strategy and when compared to radio commercials, tv ads, billboards and even the yellow pages, nothing is as economical and versatile as your website. In the United States there are more than 220 million internet users; developing a website that will enable you to reach this market-share should be part of any businesses’ marketing plan.

2. Educational
People want to know what you can do for them and what you have done for others. More and more consumers use the internet to get information about products and services so include testimonials from other satisfied customers; provide background information about personnel, give some history about your company or post some photos. People like doing business with people they know and trust, so make your website informative and educational and you maybe surprised at the results.

3. 24/7 Access
Customers shop and compare prices now more than ever before and the internet offers a powerful, quick and efficient way to do so. If your competition is online, you should be there also. Your customers can go online 24 hours a day, seven days a week to get answers and information about your business.

4. Resource
Your website gives customers and potential customers all the information about your business they need. This can include a map (if you have a bricks and mortar location), your hours of operation, contact information (phone, fax, email) etc… Customers will have an immediate resource with important information about you business.

5. Interaction with Customers
Your best customers are repeat and referred customers and there is no better way to interact with new and potential customers than keeping in touch with them online. Through your website you can post a newsletter, take a polls or surveys and promote special deals. When you keep in contact it shows customers you care and will keep you “top of mind.”

6. Instant Legitimacy
As a customer you want to know the company you are buying from is legitimate and runs a reputable business. A well designed website lends legitimacy to your business and can lead to increased sales.

7. Marketing research
The web is interactive and can provide valuable information about what your customers want and need. To get a handle on your potential customer base you can set up a survey to figure out exactly what visitors are interested in. By finding out what they are looking for you can also learn what new trends are on the horizon. This marketing research will help you efficiently grow your business.

8. Level the Playing Field
Look and act bigger than you really are. Every big business has a website and every small business should too! A well designed website presents a more professional image than a larger competitor whose web presence appears weak or amateurish.

9. It is Lucrative
If you develop an effective online marketing strategy, your website will bring in new business and new customers that you may not have acquired through other traditional advertising strategies.

10. Customers Expect It
Isn’t this where we started? In today’s business world, the internet is the way we do business and without a web presence, your business risks never being found by prospective customers.
Now that you understand why you should have a website, your next step it to determine what you want your website to achieve and then get to building! Questions? Just send me an email and I’ll be happy to help provide you with a variety of website design services!

A good quality website designer is going to help you go a long way in having a great looking site that is professional and high quality. A great professional web design site will speak volumes about your company and brand image. Here are some tips to help you select the perfect web designer of choice!

Check out the freelance sites

Nowadays many companies have realized the benefits of outsourcing their custom web design work. Today there are plenty of freelancing sites that advertise quality works of such graphic designer companies and individuals. The good thing about this is that you get to have your website designed on a budget and yet with a high quality finish! You could even manage to get a complete website designed replete with flash animations for as little as 30 or 50 dollars!

Get sample works

Before choosing any website designer for your website designing needs, be sure to collect previous work samples from all of these designers. It will help you gauge the quality of their work and also see if they can really implement a custom web design for your site. Maybe you could even have a small test for them to check their ability, before you actually select them.

Assess the reputation

It is extremely important that you go for a graphic designer that has a good track record and reputation online. Otherwise you not only risk taking on a designer with poor quality of work but you never know how professional they are! Any professional web design company that has a good credibility will adhere to deadlines, submit high quality work and will ensure proper communication methods always.

Search engine friendliness

One of the traits of a good quality custom web design company is that it will usually have a thorough understanding of search engines and how design can affect them. For example having a home page with lot of flash animations may not be a good idea as search engines do not recognize Flash. These are some of the suggestions that the design company may provide you, thereby resulting in a professional web design finish.

Navigability

Another important requisite of any good website designer is that they will ensure your site has easy navigation. That means users should ideally be able to search for information easily without much hassle. Also, the information and content represented on the website should never be overpowered by the design. For example, too much of flash animations, blinking text as well as other design elements can take away from the central purpose of the page. These are some of the suggestions that a good quality graphic designer will suggest to you.

Three Easy Ways to Find and Hire the Best Website Designer

Building a business website is easier when you have a professional website designer to do the work for you. But as with any professional, you want to make sure you are choosing someone who shares your ideas.

If you’re building a business website, you might want to turn over the work to someone who has already done it before – a professional website designer. Though it’s not that difficult to build your own website these days, there can be a learning curve that can end up costing you time as well as money. Instead of spending all of your time figuring out how to design your business website, turn over your ideas to someone who can get you up and running in days, rather than weeks. Your business deserves that professional help.

Finding a professional website designer isn’t a difficult task, but finding out that will be a perfect match for your needs? That’s something that can be a little more difficult. Here’s how you can meet up with the best designer for your business.

Look at Other Websites for Contact Information

One of the best ways to find a website designer that suits your needs is to find websites that you like and that you want to borrow ideas from for your own site. Each of these sites has been created by someone, so finding out who that ‘someone’ is will be a great way to begin your search. You can start by contacting the webmaster of the site to see if they can give you the designer’s contact information or the name of the company that was hired. If they aren’t able to give you that information, you might want to look at other sites that are designed by the same company (if the information is listed) and then see if you can get information from these other sites.

It’s more than likely that you will be able to get their contact information without much trouble or at least do a web-search that will yield the website designer’s contact information.

Ask Around, Of Course

Whenever you need a new web designer, be sure to ask around to others that you know with business websites you admire. By complimenting them on their design, they will be flattered and more than happy to pass along the name to you. Ask people in your neighborhood, your local city’s government, anyone that might have had a website made up for their business purposes. This will give you a long list of names to consider and to investigate.

Go to Freelance Hiring Sites

You might also want to look into freelance professional websites to see if you can find a good match for your needs here. By creating a list of the things you need from the website designer and then creating a contract for their services, you will not only be able to find qualified designers, but also keep the transaction professionally sound. Be sure that you have a clear idea in your mind as well as an overall deadline that you want to set so that the designer is on the same page as you in terms of your needs and whether or not they can deliver.

As with any professional transaction, you should be sure to have a contact in writing that outlines what is expected from the both of you. This way, there are no misunderstandings about what you need to do or what they need to do along the way. You should create a clear timeline of goals as well as a final launch date.

Creating a website is hard, but with a website designerFind Article, you can have professional results without the stress of having to learn about building websites at the same time you are building a business idea.

Affiliate Marketing Tips – Starting The Right Way

How keen would you be to buy a product from a salesperson who had clearly never taken the product out of the box and had no idea how it worked?

The first thing you should do if you want to start affiliate marketing the right way is buy the product for yourself. If you have been drawn to affiliate marketing by reading that it is possible to make money without spending any cash of your own, it will seem like a backward step to suggest that you start by spending money, but there is a good reason why you should seriously consider taking this advice.

What do you know about the product you will be promoting? If you haven’t tried the product, all you will know is what other people have told you and the “other people” are probably the owner of the product and his/her marketing team. Don’t you think they might be just a little bit biased? The truth is that even if the product was a complete turkey, they’d still be telling you it’s an eagle. The only way you will really know what a product does, is to buy it and test it out yourself.

It is only when you have purchased and used the product that you will be in a position to promote it effectively because you will then know exactly what it can do as opposed to what the owner would like you to believe it can do. You will find there can be a huge difference between the sales pitch dreamed up by copywriters and the actual performance of a product. Being an actual user of the product means you will be in a position to write genuine reviews on the product instead of regurgitating the advertising blurb.

The following is what happened to me a few months age when I found a new product (an e-book) that looked as if it would be very helpful to many of my website visitors.

After reading the sales letter, I was already mentally composing my review and anticipating earning loads of affiliate commissions. By the time I had downloaded my copy of the book and read a couple of chapters, I had thrown out my plan to promote the book.

One of the first things to strike me was that the book contained many typographical errors and obvious spelling mistakes. Call me picky but, if a person asks me to pay for a book, I don’t think I’m being unreasonable in expecting it to be free from typos and spelling errors. It got worse: I didn’t have to read far before I noticed some passages that made no sense; it was obvious that something had gone wrong during a cutting and pasting operation, and this had not been detected during final proof-reading. In fact, I doubted that anyone had bothered to proof-read the book before publishing.

The content turned out to be just a rehash of old ideas plus some out of date references. One of the author’s recommendations was to produce articles to be passed off as your own work by pasting together paragraphs lifted from articles by other authors. From the overall style of the book, I could tell that much of the writing had been created by using that very technique (hence the number of cut and paste errors). That, despite the so-called author’s protestations to the contrary, is plagiarism and plagiarism is pure theft.

Hopefully you will never find such a huge gulf between the sales pitch and the actual content in any affiliate product you decide to promote but, if you don’t buy the product and test it, you will never know whether you are promoting a turkey or an eagle. Your customers will. Your reluctance to invest in a sample of the product could cost you your credibility and recovery from that is much harder than recovering the cost of the product out of future sales.

Designing Your Directory Structure The first step to implementing a website is to design the directory structure. Unlike the Hollywood fairy tale of “build it and they will come,” designing a beautiful website isn’t enough. In the same manner that color bears great significance in our daily lives, so too does color play an important if not crucial role when designing a website. In order to increase the search engine optimization for your website, some new website designing needs to be done.

It’s not that difficult to build your own website and the following 10 reasons will convince you that designing a website that suits you and your market may lead to increased profits. However, it always happens that HTML editors write clumsy HTML tags, especially when you amend the webpage layout again and again during your website designing process, which may possibly deter search engines from reading your web page and in turn poorly affect your search engine ranking. Planning and organizing are the most crucial steps in designing a website. For more details go to www.my-early-days-on-the-net.com. Don’t get too caught up in all the fancy graphics when it comes to designing a website. A web designer needs to consider a variety of online selling principles while designing an eCommerce website. This article will help point out some key areas you should focus on when designing your own website. Irrelevant Content Is King when designing your website, and is equally important to both of the major groups who will determine the success of your web site. Pick a Reputable Website Designing Company In order to get the best website redesign, it is important to make sure that you choose a reputable, well liked company.

When designing your website or any promotional material, make sure you use language that all your customers understand. When designing your website, include these keywords in the page titles, Meta tags and heading tags. * Providing you with website and sales reports * Designing presentations for client meetings, Design depends on individual taste, and designing a website from a first draft that the client will like from the start, can be a real challenge.

Use website templates if you don’t have any designing flair. Keywords and Search Terms Your business keywords and search terms are also critical considerations when designing your website. For more information login to www.thedesignbuild.com. Here’s a Fast Track Technique to make your job of designing and building a website a lot easier: All you really have to do is plan one page, your homepage, and then clone all your other 2nd and 3rd level pages.
Designing a Website with ZERO Marketing Experience — Most web designers have no idea how to make money on the internet, with anything other than their design services. If you are designing or maintaining your website then learn about Meta tags.
Designing for color-blind browsers although designing a website for the colorblind will not limit your color palette, you’ll need to be wary of the color combinations that you use. Make sure you are well aware of these tactics before designing or optimizing your website. Designing Your Directory Structure The first step to implementing a website is to design the directory structure.

You must remember the following when designing your website. When designing your website, include these keywords in the page titles, Meta tags and heading tags. To have a really good website, you’ll need a budget (or be good at designing one) in order to make it look trustworthy and professional. Designing a Website with Marketing Experience — Most web designers have no idea how to make money on the internet, with anything other than their design services.

For example if you write an e-book on web designing then this may sell great on “guide to web design” website. Here’s a Fast Track Technique to make your job of designing and building a website a lot easier: All you really have to do is plan one page, your homepage, and then clone all your other 2nd and 3rd level pages. It’s not that difficult to build your own website and the following reasons will convince you that designing a website that suits you and your market may lead to increased profits. She then retired the following year and we began designing a website to provide health information visit www.15-ways-to-boost-website-response.com.

In order to increase the search engine optimization for your website, some new website designing needs to be done. A customizable website builder which includes page editor features is superb, and means that you don’t have to rely on any web designing company or website designer to update your site. A common problem that many people have is that before they even start designing or building a website they need to decide specifically what the goal of the website is. Website designers can work as freelancers, designing and maintaining websites for a variety of clients.

When you go through the website designing process, it is important to make sure that your website is put into simpler navigation form. It’s easy to get caught up in the day to day mechanics of designing and maintaining a website and poor organization just makes the job harder. The Website Establishing a website consists of three steps: securing a domain name, designing the website, and finding a web hosting service. I wouldn’t name the website here, but I know well about them because I was trying to compete with them for two most competitive keywords “web design company” and “web designing company” If you doubt that these keywords are so competitive, I would like you to have a look at this great tool which would tell you how competitive a keyword and a phrase is, it’s fun to play with.

Design depends on individual taste and designing a website from a first draft that the client will like from the start, can be a real challenge. Skills I have added are coaching, project management, designing instruction, building a website, teaching telecasts, and e-marketing. Avoid fanciful graphics, slow loading time and inaccurate spelling when designing your website. This could be because when you are designing a website, you are concentrating so intently on the smaller details that you forget to step back and look at the big picture.

Let’s talk about couple of important point I choose to discuss –Web Designing & Web hosting – Lets say you have chosen one of the best web designing company in your area to design & develop your website with the best of your knowledge and they have completed the website designing in couple of days now your website is ready to host on a server. “Well, driving high traffic to your site is important, but what’s even more important, is designing a website that makes them stay. But before you think about designing your website, go to www.29-web-design-tricks.com, it is vitally important to choose a popular topic, with preferably high paying commissions – after all, you won’t profit from anything without any website visitors, no matter how good your site looks.

Ecommerce Software With the Evolution Of Internet!

The Internet proved to be extremely promising from the very start. At first, people respected it for its wealth of information. When the first e-mail service began operations, it became a new sensation in the communication world. Then search engines happened upon the scene and made it infinitely easier for people to sift through all the information on the Internet in a matter of seconds. With the evolution of internet, today it is used highly for electronic business and electronic commerce. Now, let me define both of the terms used. Electronic commerce describes the buying and selling of products, services, and information via computer networks including the Internet, where e-business describes the broadest definition of electronic commerce. It includes buying and selling of products and services, servicing customers, collaborating with business partners, and conducting other intra-business tasks.

Now if we try to find the difference between e-business and e-commerce than we can say that while ecommerce is the buying and selling of goods and services over the internet; we can rightly point out that e-business is actually the conducting of business on the internet including, not only buying and selling, for more detail www.software-designers-pro.com but also serving customers and collaborating with the business partners. Ecommerce shopping cart software is at the heart of any ecommerce site. Many high-tech solutions are now on the market, with the intention of making launching an internet store as simple as surfing the internet. You need a multipurpose ecommerce store platform with many features built in and room for further expansion. Inventory management, credit care processing, and discounts and other special offers should all be part of your system.

The shopping cart program used for any ecommerce software should be flexible that is it should have a powerful template subsystem that will make building a unique design easy, according to any creative ideas & requirements. Also, low-cost custom development offering and web design services are always a welcome to provide the clients with a high-quality custom commerce solution. Not only that, any ecommerce software should be scalable too with various extension add-ons available to allow start selling online with basic functionality extended later. Add-on development like API is open, for more detail www.software-index-website.com so any additional modules can be designed freely and then uploaded when needed on the website. Ecommerce software needs to be simple to use. It needs to allow you to manage your web store by using your browser. You should be able to use templates to change the storefront’s appearance.

Whichever way you decide to go with your Fore software, choose the one that is best for the way you operate. Using the latest technology to assist you with the in-depth analysis of all data pertinent data is critical to maximizing your success and the right Fore software package can definitely help in that regard.

When it comes to your website, extra attention should be paid to every minute detail to make sure it performs optimally to serve its purpose. Here are seven important rules of thumb to observe to make sure your website performs well.

1) Do not use splash pages

Splash pages are the first pages you see when you arrive at a website. They normally have a very beautiful image with words like “welcome” or “click here to enter”. In fact, they are just that — pretty vases with no real purpose. Do not let your visitors have a reason to click on the “back” button! Give them the value of your site up front without the splash page.

2) Do not use excessive banner advertisements

Even the least net savvy people have trained themselves to ignore banner advertisements so you will be wasting valuable website real estate. Instead, provide more valueable content and weave relevant affiliate links into your content, and let your visitors feel that they want to buy instead of being pushed to buy.

3) Have a simple and clear navigation

You have to provide a simple and very straightforward navigation menu so that even a young child will know how to use it. Stay away from complicated Flash based menus or multi-tiered dropdown menus. If your visitors don’t know how to navigate, they will leave your site.

4) Have a clear indication of where the user is

When visitors are deeply engrossed in browsing your site, you will want to make sure they know which part of the site they are in at that moment. That way, they will be able to browse relevant information or navigate to any section of the site easily. Don’t confuse your visitors because confusion means “abandon ship”!

5) Avoid using audio on your site

If your visitor is going to stay a long time at your site, reading your content, you will want to make sure they’re not annoyed by some audio looping on and on on your website. If you insist on adding audio, make sure they have some control over it — volume or muting controls would work fine.

How to Design Web Templates

In this article I will describe a method of how to design web templates in a modular way. This allows for the creation of easily adaptable and maintainable web templates from simple ones right up to the most complex.

A website template is a framework for a website containing the code for web pages, graphic elements and a styling template. Most people think of a template in terms of it’s visual appearance but this is really the theme.

The two main parts of a template are the content management code and the theme. These should be kept separate so that the theme can easily be changed without affecting the structure. For example, the styles should be defined in an external style sheet and not embedded in the HTML code of the pages.

The structure of a website will be defined by a set of templates. It is good practise to make the templates modular rather than having page templates containing all the code for each page. This allows site-wide changes to be easily applied. For example, the footer may be mostly identical between pages.

We might divide a page template into a header, content, sidebar and footer where these are in separate files. The content will change most between pages, so rather than having a content file, we include the content into a page file which pulls in the individual template files and defines the unique features of that page.

The unique features of a page will be the title, description and article content. We can define these at the start of the page template with say PHP code to set the value of variables that are used by the other templates such as the header template. Then we assemble the page by including the required templates and inserting the content.

If we directly insert the content, we will create a new page template for each page of the site. But this is fine since we are not duplicating the header, footer and sidebar.

To reduce the number of page templates, we can store our content in a database and use a page ID to identify which page content to insert. This ID is usually appended to our URLs of the website. If we do this, we are creating what is known as a Content Management System (CMS).

Where the theme is likely to be changed often or people are encouraged to design new themes, a separate directory can be created to hold the various themes. A read me file could be included to credit the designer, or this information could be added to the start of the style sheet as a comment section.

For this to work, we now need to create master page templates that pull in the templates from the current theme. The master page templates will power the site. The code that these templates use is best kept in separate files in say an includes directory.

In summary I have covered the concepts of modular website template creation from the simple to a complex CMS.

Top Internet Marketing Tactic To Dominate the Search Engines

If you want to get a LOT more Internet traffic than you are now, without having to do a lot of complicated key word and SEO tricks, then this article will show you how.
Listen to this:The key to getting a lot of traffic to your website…is audio.
Why?Because search engines are now starting to pick up what is called ID3 tags.
What are ID3 tags?Well, you know how when you put a CD in your CD Rom, or if you have a car CD player, and you put it in there and you see the little title of what you’re putting in there flash across? That’s an ID3 tag. There’s code embedded in the actual mp3 file, and also when people download digital files onto an iPod. for more details visit to ww.website-conversion-mastery.com. This allows people to sort their music by title, artist and other criteria.

The ID3 Name tag allows you to enter a more descriptive name for your audio file. For example, an audio file that has a name like “myaudio.mp3” can be renamed “How I Made My First Million in Advertising.” That’s certainly more descriptive than the file name!

You are also able to enter the Artist’s Name and Composer. Both of these will probably contain your name as well as the name of your web site, email address, and/or telephone number. Mix up the content between these two fields. for more information visit to www.tube-traffic.com. In my audios, the Artist’s Name field has my name and web site address and the Composer field has my name and my telephone number.
Although its length is limited to a few sentences, get creative and come up with a succinct summary of the audio that includes key words that will get your audio listed higher in Search Engines when someone is looking for content that may be just what your audio contains.
And, when you have an mp3 file up on your website, the search engines start picking it up that information like they do HTML text.
So, imagine if you have twenty or thirty audio recordings on your site, and you’ve got millions of people searching for whatever it is you sell.By using audio, in addition to your regular web page content you have now; you have an extra “layer” of content being picked up by the search engines at the same time.
And by having those ID3 tags, and the keywords within, it’s going to be easier to dominate your market because the websites can’t search the actual audio portion. All they can go by is what’s on the ID3 tags on your files. This is the strategy I do with my own websites with phenomenal results. And it will work for you, too.The whole key to this is to simply get that audio content up there on your site with the ID3 tags and then let the search engines do the rest.
www.auto-hits-machine.com

Looking for ways on how you can create compelling and best-selling products that you can sell to online users? Would you rather sell your own creations than sink you teeth into affiliate marketing? Then, let me share with you the 4 great ways on how you can excel at internet product creation:

1. Define your audience. This is the first thing that you need to do the moment you decide to give product creation a try. You need to get to know online users or the people you are serving to make it much easier for you to create products that they will truly appreciate. Ask yourself; are you targeting men, women, or both? What is their age, social status, educational background, and occupation? What are their pressing issues, questions, needs, and demands? What is their buying power? How often do they go online? Are they desperate buyers, freebie seekers, or somewhere in between? The more you know about these people, the higher your chances of creating products that are not only compelling but extremely useful as well.

2. Develop product ideas. Once you have a solid idea about your customers, you’ll easily be able to figure out the products that they will be willing to spend their money on. If these people are suffering from weight gain and they are desperate in looking for products or information on how they can lose their unwanted pounds, you can easily create information products about weight loss or you can sell exercise equipment and diet supplements.

3. Check on your competitors. Get to know the people that you are up against. Understand their product creation strategies, the marketing tools that they are using, the quality of products they offer, etc. As they say, you can easily win the battle if you know your enemy by heart. Ensure that you take your product creation efforts to the next level to easily get ahead of the pack.

4. Go with products that require low initial investment. If you are just like any new marketers, I am sure you don’t want to spend too much money on your products unless you are assured that you’ll get your ROI. Thus, I highly recommend that you create digital products that will not burn your pockets but can offer you with great financial returns so you can boost your earnings from this endeavor.

Few Business Marketing Ideas to Pull Website Sales

To prepare to pull in more sales from your website it is a sensible internet marketing idea to have a stat counter on your website or use Google Analytics so that you can see, inter alia, exactly where your traffic is coming from, the keywords being used, the entry and exit points from your site, the number of pages they visit and how long a visitor stays on your online home business website.

These statistics will help you fine tune your website to encourage visitors to stay longer and explore your website and to either make a purchase or sign-up for your newsletter or affiliate program and ultimately pull in more sales from your website.

The bounce rate referred to in Google Analytics means that visitors go no further than the page they entered your site on. If your bounce rate is high it could mean that you are targeting the wrong keywords and they are arriving at a site that they have no interest in.

Perhaps the color is off putting or there is nothing to grab there attention in the top fold of your website that is visible in their browser when your site opens. Is your site easy to navigate? Can they get back to the home page once they click on a link to another page of your site? Put yourself in your visitors’ shoes and take a tour of your own website to find out! These are all areas you could look at and make gradual adjustments to entice the visitor to explore your website.

You could change the position of the products or opportunities that you are offering. It is amazing what can happen when you change two links around or move a banner to another position on your website.

Be sure to have a call to action on your website and make it highly visible so that it attracts the people’s attention and makes them click.

An internet marketing idea that a lot of people do not like but have been proven to work is the use of pop up windows or slide in advertisements on your web site. They grab your visitor’s attention because they jump right out at them.

Be sure to keep track of and analyze all your promotional efforts. Concentrate on the ones that work and drop the ones that don’t work. Don’t waste your valuable time.

You know what it takes to get traffic to your website so you need to get the most from each one of your visitors. You could add a message board or chat room to your web site. If people enjoy it, they will revisit your web site to participate regularly. Ask them to subscribe to your ezine, bookmark your site or complete a survey and remember to always offer them something free in return.

Keep yourself up-to-date with the latest internet business marketing ideas by buying internet business books, ebook, private site memberships and joining appropriate forums. The internet and technology moves at such a rapid pace that you need to keep studying, learning and applying all the new website promotional ideas you can.

If you find a banner is not performing well on your website change it to a text link. Try a different color text to draw attention to a specific area on your site or add some tiny graphics to break up the text and attract attention.

Visitors are looking for information so be sure your website offers unique, interesting and informative content for them to read. Keep the sentences and paragraphs short and to the point, try using lists, short tips and short articles as many people have little time and just skim over text but at the same time hope to find really useful information.

You can trade content with other ezine publishers or web sites. This is also a powerful and effective way to place your links on other targeted web sites.

Nothing is static on the internet and that includes your website. Be continually on the lookout for internet business marketing ideas to pull in more sales. Tweak and change things on your website to adjust to the expectations of your visitors and this will generate online income for you.
Did you find this article useful?

Adware and Spyware

Adware is any software application, which makes banners that appear the whole time it is in function. In addition, the adware program can install components that will transmit information about the user. Tracking the behavior and the work on the PC. Unlike spyware programs, the user is asked when the program is being installed.

An adware comes with a basic function along with a hidden one. One that makes it show popup or banners on occasions. These may be downloaded any time from certain internet servers.

Spyware is a program that is usually received over the internet. It sends information about the user without them knowing it. Every time they connect to the internet, this information is collected. Usually they are after their marketing info. Most do not go for your private or personal stuff. This is not always the case, as some programs will collect personal information as well.

Some applications are both adware and spyware; this is not a common however. Most of the times spyware applications have installed themselves. They are working without the user knowing it. Opposed to the adware files that cannot be installed without the consent of the user.

For a long time quality and free software was installed and used free. As the complexity of the programs grew and their costs rose adware and spyware were developed. Developers just had to find out methods of reducing cost. One of the easiest ways was delivering along with their programs application like adware and spyware. Many commercial programs became free and legal to use by being added to the adware category.

From the harmless intention of showing, some commercials and analyzing information about the users software or hardware configuration. To programs, that today can literally take over a computer. Adware and Spyware in the beginning was only an engine that downloaded commercials, showed them in pre-calculated windows, and let developers see how their software was working. The adware industry has evolved, and grew into an uncontrolled hacker’s environment. They now use different tactics some of which are very dangerous to you and your computer. They are able too alter your browser and its settings while at the same time they launch background applications that monitor your PC activity.

Some of the effects that follow installing spyware and adware:

1. Adding links to various magazines.
2. Adding new commercials on the web pages, sometimes replacing the existent ones.
3. Monitoring browser behavior in commercial purposes.
4. Gaining access to passwords and credit cards.
5. Slowing down the computer.
6. In some cases, they can call telephone numbers with high costs.
7. Changing the browser’s homepage in commercial purposes.
8. Strange icons and new software might appear on the desktop.

You can enter their online sites and try the services free; before you do, you should decide if it is really something worth the risk of using.

Search engine marketing company: Marketing redefined once again

Brand marketing is one of the most successful strategies besides other means to attain popularity for a company. And internet fits the bill perfectly wherein the marketing fundamentals get maximum boost and your business is able to gain profits. A search engine marketing company promotes your ads in a grander way and has got maximum potential to make your company known in the market. Today traditional methods have largely been done away with and other promotional methods for popularizing a brand are utilized. In the internet marketing, a business organization goes for online marketing process whereby products and services are advertised on a wider scale in the national as well as international markets. Besides providing a web copy for websites of different companies, a proper research is done to improvise the content of web pages.

To popularize a brand or a product, an SEO company analyzes thoroughly topics covered in the web copy of a particular firm. Since a number of competitors are there in the field, the race to be on the top intensifies with each passing hour.
Buying text links from seo companies is always tricky as most produce links from useless sites that are probably banned in google or make up there links on blogs or foums. The only good if any is there promoting your keywords but might be slightly hurting your site at the same time.

What you need is a good seo company like one called adsitecentral.com to help boost your site in the rankings with good quality cheap text links. They offer up to 3500 directory submissions and allow you to specify upto 7 titles and 7 descriptions which they will use in rotation through the 3500 directories. So that means you will be promoting the majority of your keywords as each title and description gets submitted to 500 directories each.

This is a good way to help boost your pagerank and increase your position in the search engines. The other good thing about this service is they space your orders out to stop your site from being penalised by google and provide the best seo service they can. All work is carried out by one of there seo experts and submitted to each site and each category manually.
