The Benefits of Automatic Pool Cleaners

If you are considering having a swimming pool installed in your yard or at your place of business then you are in for a big surprise when you find out the amount of labor and time that is required to keep the pool and the water that it contains clean.

The pool filter will do the brunt of the work but the smaller particulate matter and the actual surface as well as debris that will accumulate in the bottom will be your task to tend to.

Fortunately, over the years automatic puol cleaners have been on the market for just this purpose and in recent years they have gone through quantum leaps in technological development.

Todays automatic pool cleaners only vaguely resemble the first protype models that appeared on the market decades ago and the functions and features that they now contain are simply astounding.

The top of the line automatic pool cleaners of today are in fact small aquatic pool cleaning robots that not only vacuum a pools water clean of even the finest particulate matter but they also scrub the pools surface clean with brushes as well.

The difference that a quality high tech, full featured automatic pool cleaner will make on a pool is incredible, because it can mean the difference between a pool that just looks good and a pool and its water that is crystalline in appearance.

When choosing an automatic pool cleaner it is important that you take a good look at your pool and all of its features before you make your final decision.

For instance, there are now automatic pool cleaners on the market that are fully programmable and also contain artificial intelligence that allows them to maneuver around pool obstacles such as stairs, corners and islands. Also, you may want an automatic pool cleaner that automatically signals you when its vacuum bag is full or clogged with debris.

What to Look for in a Discount Vacuum Cleaner

A lot of people feel that vacuum cleaners are a necessity in their homes. Not just any vacuum will do though. Consumers are increasingly becoming aware of the need for quality vacuum units. Quality units however are not always easy to get because the prices can be quite steep. Fortunately it is possible for you to get a hold of a discount vacuum cleaner that also has top quality. You simply have to look around at different offline and online stores for the perfect discount vacuum cleaner. To give you a head start in your search, here are some good items to consider.

Hoover WindTunnel

Looking for a good deal on upright vacuums? Some shops are offering the Hoover WindTunnel with almost over $50 the original price. The WindTunnel is a self-propelled forward and reverse vacuum that can clean 15 inches of area with a single stroke. Packed with a powered hand tool and a dual brush, this dust buster has a stretch hose, height adjustment capability, and easy operation fingertip control. Quiet and strong, one can get a discounted Hoover WindTunnel and still avail of a full year’s warranty.

CleanMate 365 Silver

For a little more than $100 you can be part of a developing technological trend with the CleanMate 365 Silver, a robot cleaner that you can order around. This is simply a great product if you want to multi task or simply sit and rest. You can do whatever you are doing and simply control your vacuum by remote. This unit is good in any surface and because of its compact design, it can even suck dirt from under beds, tables and cabinets. The best thing about it is that while it is cleaning up, it can also deodorize and even kill bacteria. This is definitely a technological wonder.

Bissell 5770 Bagless Upright

Been watching television and seen something you wanted that was out of your range? Keep an eye out on deals on some of the best upright vacuums such as the Bissell 5770. Some shops online are now offering this monster of a vacuum at $100 less than the original price. Considerable savings? That’s an understatement! This bagless, cyclonic vacuum from Bissell comes with a one year warranty, a 35 foot cord, on-board tools, and a built-in selector that allows you to use it on bare floors as well as carpets. The airtight vessel that collects the dirt is protected by a sealed HEPA filtration system to protect you from any allergens that might bother you.

These are just some of the many discount vacuum cleaner deals that you will find online and perhaps at your local store. Vacuums do not have to be expensive, and if you are a patient buyer, then the chances are that you will find what you like the most at a cheaper price later on. Just give it some time and make sure to browse and shop around before deciding on what to buy. Some of the best purchases are made when they are discounted and this will help you get the best high-quality products without having to break the bank.

Search Engine Optimization Truth

Search engine optimization is a critical component to developing top page rankings. Done correctly, this one technique can increase your site’s exposure and popularity, and in turn will drive traffic to your site that will help your business succeed beyond your wildest dreams.

There are a many ways to increase your page rank and increase your search engine optimization, otherwise known as SEO. Before we discuss exactly what search engine optimization is, let’s talk a little bit about how search engines work.

Search engines provide specific data that match the search terms of users by sifting information and providing only the most relevant results based on keywords or targeted words and phrases.

Search engine results would be of no good to users if the information they pulled up was either not relevant or particularly outdated. People expect only the most recent and targeted information in the search engine results.

If you update your web site each day and add relevant information to it, the search engines will be more likely to pick your web site up and rank it higher.

Optimizing your web site and keeping your pages fresh and updated will boost traffic and sales because you will achieve a higher page ranking. This is absolutely imperative if you want to have success as an online entrepreneur.

Search engine optimization, or SEO, means that a business owner uses strategic copy to make sure that the search engines pick up their website. It’s a specific way for one competitor to succeed over another, since competition for page ranking has in itself created a huge market of its own.

The most effective way to increase your page rank is to simply supply high-quality content consistently in your web pages. This seems simple, but in fact, many online businesses think that they can provide shoddy but “keyword optimized” copy and still get the same results. This is not true.

Your content must be well written, interesting, and regularly updated so that visitors will keep coming back. It will also help to increase word-of-mouth so that you can draw more prospective customers to your web site.

While you want to make your web site fresh and interesting, if you try to “sell” people or otherwise be flashy and it isn’t you, people will know this and simply go away. In other words, for best search engine optimization, be real.

Next, you need to include what are called “high converting” keywords and phrases in your content. This means that you place keywords in your content so that search engines will pick up your pages and place them high in search engine rankings.

You used to be able to “stuff” your content with keywords every other line and get great page ranking. Now, you must strategically use keywords, because if you have too many, the search engines will actually lower your page rank or even drop you.

Ideally, you want to place keywords in the first and last paragraph of your content and shoot for about 3% keyword content in the overall copy itself.

Implementing a linking strategy as part of your SEO plan will give you free advertising for your site. As more and more people link to your site, you will receive increased exposure and gain “expert” status as well. For every link that you have pointing to your site, this is another chance for your customer to find you. The more inbound links you have, the higher your rank will be in search engines.

Formulate a strategy for your content because most people who go online are looking for information, period. The more helpful the information, the more likely they will become eventual customers.

One of the best ways to do this is to write articles and post them on your site and to other Web e-zines and directories. Adding more pages allows the search engines another opportunity to find you and results in higher page ranking. This, in turn, will draw even more visitors.

Make your site easy to navigate and the articles easy to find. You can develop a menu that will clearly describe the articles you write and arrange them by subject. This will bring you more traffic as you add pages to your site.

Search engine optimization is vital to acquiring top page rankings. Done correctly, this one technique can increase your site’s exposure and popularityFree Web Content, and in turn will drive traffic to your site that will help your business succeed beyond your wildest dreams.

Internet Marketing Tips – Advertising Resources For Newbies To Avoid

The easiest online advertising resources are the ones most often used by newbies, unfortunately, they are usually wasting their time and cash because they don’t know the right way to use the resources.

If you want to make money online, you will need to get the hang of the various promotional methods available on the Internet. There are free advertising resources as well as paid for advertising. Some work, some are a pure waste of time and some only work if you know the right way to go about it. Let’s have a look at a three Internet based advertising methods.

Traffic Exchanges
Traffic exchanges are often used by Internet newbies because firstly they are free and secondly they are easy to use. The problem is that traffic exchange advertising does not work for every type of offer and you need to know what works and what doesn’t if you are going to use traffic exchanges successfully. For the average newbie, advertising on traffic exchanges represents a lot of wasted time.

The problem for newbies is that your advertisement will be seen by other webmasters who are interested in promoting their products and not in looking at yours. You, however, as a newbie, will be bombarded with ads inviting you to sign up for all sorts of money making programs, useful tools and so on. You can easily find that using free traffic exchange advertising ends up costing you money because you have been tempted into signing up for some useful items. Save traffic exchanges until you know how to use them properly.

Safe Lists
Membership of a safe list program, entitles you to email your ad to everyone else on the list. In return you agree to accept ads from all the other people on the list. You will be inundated with emails, and this could mean hundreds of emails every day depending on the size of the list. The people on the list are there to promote their own goods and services and most will probably not even open your email, let alone read your ad and click through to your website.

Most safe list members use a free throw-away email account and have all the mail directed straight to trash. The chances of your email being seen by a potential customer are extremely slim; it is up to you to decide if that slim chance is worth the time you will need to spend on sending emails to the list.

Purchased Leads
Most Internet marketers will tell you that you should never purchase leads. Leads, for the sake of complete Internet marketing newbies, are details of people who are purportedly interested in your product and would welcome an approach from you. The problem with leads is that they are either cheap and completely useless or expensive and mostly useless. The cheapest leads will have been obtained by dubious methods (ie stolen), they will be years out of date and will have been sold many times over.

If you buy these you will be paying for out of date information and details of people who have received so many unwanted approaches from other Internet marketers that they would be more likely to come after you swinging a baseball bat than sign up for anything you recommend.

If you buy expensive leads, they will normally be fresh but they will still be sold to several different people and if you are unlucky enough to be the tenth person calling them with an offer, you won’t get a warm welcome. These leads might also have been obtained by the offer of an incentive, and you will find that they are not interested in your offer and only signed up to get a freebie .

In summary, I would not recommend any of these three promotional methods to newbies. Bulk emailing to safe lists is a waste of timeFeature Articles, paying for leads is a waste of cash and traffic exchange advertising is only effective if you know what you are doing.

Interior Decorating Themes – What’s Your Decorating Style?

There are a variety of decorating themes from formal to informal and everything in between. Which one best describes your decorating style?

Formal Traditional
Furnishings and designs from the Renaissance, Baroque, Early and Late Georgian, Federal, Greek Revival and Victorian eras. This style is shown with fine furnishings, elegant, refined and exquisite wall coverings, elaborate moldings, formal window treatments and Oriental rugs.

Informal Traditional
The same eras as above but this style has less refined versions of furnishings. There are more touchable elements, more earthy colors, and some urban archaeology without restoration is common. This style is comfortable and inviting.

American Country
This style holds furnishings from the 17th century through the present, all simple with the appearance of hand-crafted work. Two versions are popular today: Upscale Country with the use of more tactile, comfortable elements and very close to Informal Traditional but with a clearly country theme in all the furnishings; and Rustic Country, which sports a reused, recycled quality. The wall coverings and window treatments set the theme and the furnishings have a just-found-it-at-the-antique-market feel.

Country French
This style is exhibited in Classic Rococo, Neoclassic or Empire-inspired country furnishings. Wall coverings include florals, ticking, toile, and moirés depending on the level of formality.

Arts & Crafts
This simple style is also known as Early Modern or Organic Modern. The era focuses on hard, stained oak furniture with simple, straight lines.

International Modern
This is a look of ultra simplicity, hard lines, and smooth surfaces contrasted with abstract patterns and unusual textures.

Environmental
Designs in this theme contain colors, textures and very subtle patterns of the earth.

Romantic Victorian
This style still is a favored theme for rooms with lots of pattern featuring English garden florals in dreamy colors. Both fabric and wall coverings can be patterned, and clutter decorating – especially with accessories – is part of this look.

Ethnic and Primitive
This masculine approach has many faces from African to the American Southwest, from the lodge-look to the South Seas. Heavy or tactile textures coupled with patterns that are charming because of their lack of sophistication fit here.

Fabric and Wall Covering Themes
This is a wonderful way to decorate – by selecting a great fabric or wall covering that inherently features a theme. Some examples include sea and shore, sports, outdoor recreation, kitchen or domestic elements, juvenile elements, feminine floral themes, exotic designs from far away lands, and more.

Elements Of Interior Design

Whether you are working with existing furnishings and fabrics or “starting from scratch” with an empty room, you should always use the elements and principles of design as a guide in choosing everything. The elements are your tools or raw materials, much like paints are the basics to a painter. The elements of design include space, line, form, color, and texture. The principles of design relate to how you use these elements and are balance, emphasis, rhythm, proportion and scale, and harmony and unity.

Element #1: Space
Space defines the boundaries and sets the limits on the functional and decorative things you can do. Usually you will not determine the space; instead, you will be faced with the challenge of using the existing space effectively.

Element #2: Line
The lines in a room are second only to color in importance when it comes to setting the overall mood or feeling of a room. The lines of window fashions should support the dominant line of the room. In most situations, the dominant line is straight (vertical, horizontal or diagonal) rather than curved. Your choice of emphasizing the direction of lines will determine the mood you want to create.
• Vertical lines add height and dignity, creating a more formal atmosphere. Vertical lines also balance the horizontal lines found in most furniture.
• Horizontal lines tend to create a restful, informal feeling. They work well in casual rooms or as relief to the strong verticals of formal rooms.
• Diagonal lines attract attention and lead the eye. They can be disturbing unless supported by verticals or opposing diagonals.
• Curved lines add a softening effect and keep the room from becoming too stiff. Use curved lines with some restraint to keep the room from becoming too soft and overly feminine.

Element #3: Form
Lines that join together produce the form, or shape, of an object, which in turn impacts the overall feeling of a room. Straight lines create rectangles, square and triangles. Curved lines form circles and ovals. The rectangle is the most popular form and is often the dominant shape in a room. Triangles provide stability and curved shapes soften the contours of objects.

Element #4: Color
More than any other element, color can make a room beautiful. Color can set the mood. It can make a room warmer or cooler, larger or smaller. It can hide unsightly features or call attention to the center of interest. Even with the simplest furnishings, the proper use of color can transform a room.

Element #5: Texture
Texture is playing an increasingly important role in home decorating. Visual texture is a material’s apparent smoothness or roughness. To maintain and enhance a casual feeling, use fabrics that are more heavily textured, nubby or rough visual texture. Smooth, shiny surfaces such as silk, moiré, chintz and silk-like looks support a more formal feeling in a room. Using several levels of complementary textures adds variety and maintains interest. However, it is a good idea to avoid dramatic contrasts in texture.

Principles Of Interior Design

Whether you are working with existing furnishings and fabrics or “starting from scratch” with an empty room, you should always use the elements and principles of design as a guide in choosing everything. The elements are your tools or raw materials, much like paints are the basics to a painter. The elements of design include space, line, form, color, and texture.

The principles of design relate to how you use these elements. The principles of design are balance, emphasis, rhythm, proportion and scale, and harmony and unity.

Principle #1: Balance
Visual equilibrium in a room is called balance. It gives a sense of repose and a feeling of completion. A well-balanced room gives careful consideration to the placement of objects according to their visual weight. The elements of line, form, color and texture all help determine an object’s visual weight, which is the amount of space it appears to occupy. Balance also refers to how and where you place the elements (line, form, color and texture) within a room. To maintain balance, try to distribute the elements throughout the room.
• Formal balance, often referred to as symmetrical balance, creates a mirror image effect.
• Informal balance uses different objects of the same visual weight to create equilibrium in a room. It is more subtle and spontaneous and gives a warmer, more casual feeling.

Principle #2: Emphasis
Emphasis is the focal point of the room. The focal point should be obvious as you enter the room; it is the area to which your eye is attracted. Whatever is featured, as the center of interest –a fireplace, artwork or a window treatment framing a beautiful view – must be sufficiently emphasized so that everything else leads the eye toward the featured area. You can add emphasis to a natural focal point or create one in a room through effective use of line, form, color and texture.

Principle #3: Rhythm
Rhythm supplies the discipline that controls the eye as is moves around a room. Rhythm helps the eye to move easily from one object to another and creates a harmony that tells the eye everything in the room belongs to a unified whole. Rhythm is created through repetition of line, form, color or texture. It can also be created through progression. Progressive rhythm is a gradual increasing or decreasing in size, direction or color.

Principle #4: Proportion and Scale
Size relationships in a room are defined by proportion and scale. Proportion refers to how the elements within an object relate to the object as a whole. Scale relates to the size of an object when compared with the size of the space in which it is located.

Principle #5: Harmony and Unity
A well-designed room is a unified whole that encompasses all the other elements and principles of design. Unity assures a sense of order. There is a consistency of sizes and shapes, a harmony of color and pattern. The ultimate goal of decorating is to create a room with unity and harmony and a sense of rhythm. Repeating the elements, balancing them throughout the room, and then adding a little variety so that the room has its own sense of personality accomplishes this. Too much unity can be boring; too much variety can cause a restless feeling. Juggling the elements and principles to get just the right mix is a key to good design.

Heart Of The Home – Faux Finishes For Kitchen Cabinetry

Faux finished cabinets are finding a welcome home in today’s kitchens. From the most timeworn distressed looks to high-end lacquered finishes, a decorative painter can add just the right touch from his artist’s pallet to create the exact design and style most appropriate for your dream kitchen.

As we all know so very well, the kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s our source of comfort and joy. Whether we’re preparing a meal for our loved ones or just hanging out with our friends, the kitchen is the place everyone loves to be the best. And these days, the makeup of our kitchen environs is getting the attention it deserves.

Older kitchens are being remodeled and expanded. The kitchens in new homes are bigger than ever and are more accessible, too. Everything that goes into making a perfect space is being included — professional cooking equipment, granite countertops, sophisticated lighting, and especially important is stunningly beautiful cabinetry.

Giving the kitchen a particular feel can be easily achieved through decorative painting on the cabinets — whether the look is farmhouse French, Swedish country, or even slick contemporary.

A sophisticated and experienced faux finisher has at his command many finishes and materials that can fit the needs of the interior designer, homebuilder and homeowner. He is able to provide information on the best colors and most suitable techniques, plus bring unique artistic insights to the job.

Some of the faux effects that are popular in kitchens these days include one or a combination of the following:

o Dry-brushing
o Stippling
o Strie
o Stains and paints
o Ragged glazes
o Metallic finishes
o Antique distressed finishes

Pricing for the finishes depends upon the level of complexity and the material used to get that “just right” look. If your kitchen cabinetry is freshly painted, then a simple dry-brushed finish may be all you need, and is usually inexpensive. However, the more steps that are involved in a process, the more the price goes up. A knowledgeable faux finisher can work within your budget while giving you the best possible look to complete your dreams.

I encourage you to contact an experienced professional faux finisher for a free consultation when you are ready to begin your kitchen project.

Discuss your ideas with a faux finish expert — look at colors, styles, techniques and samples. Then develop the perfect combination for your dream kitchen.

Ask detailed questions, get references, ask to see photos, and if possible go to a kitchen the faux finisher has completed to check out his quality and level of competence.

Make your heart of the home as perfect as you deserve.

Decorating With Coat Racks And Vintage Clothing

When most people think of coat racks, they think strictly of hanging coats, hats, and scarves. But coat racks can be a lot more than just a place to keep clutter off the floor. They can also provide you with an opportunity to display your own, unique decorating tastes.

One of my favorite ways to decorate with coat racks is to display vintage clothing on them. Wall-mounted coat racks work particularly well for displaying vintage hats and bonnets. And floor-mounted coat racks are a natural for cloaks, gowns, shawls and scarves.

Don’t go cheap when using coat racks as a decorating accent. True, you can pick up a generic wall-mounted coat rack for under $10 and a floor-standing one for under $30. But if your goal is to create an eye-catching accent, don’t expect a cheap one to have the effect you want.

Bent wood, rattan, wrought iron, or brass give you the best eye appeal in a floor-standing coat rack. And look for furniture-quality solid hardwood in wall-mounted coat racks. Don’t settle for generic, dime-store coat hooks on your coat rack when you can easily combine the beauty of brass and porcelain or get the rustic strength of wrought iron.

You can find wall-mounted coat racks with rosemaling, or other styles of decorative painting. These always add to your accent, as do such features as a plate rack or decorative shelf on top that allows you to display other collectibles.

And a mirror, whether etched or plain, on your wall-mounted coat rack is always a big plus. Not only does it enhance the beauty of your accent, but it provides a much appreciated service to your guests of letting them check their appearance after coming in from outdoors.

As for finding vintage hats or clothing for your coat rack, here are some places to try.
Most larger cities have at least one vintage clothing store available. You can also find vintage clothing in many estate sales. And more and more second-hand stores gather vintage clothing donated to them into a special area.

Or you can look for reproduction vintage clothing and hats from merchants who specialize in supplying the participants of living history events with clothing and items from daily life of the eras these participants portray.

I’ve found Renaissance festivals and Civil War Reenactments to be especially rich sources of quality reproduction vintage clothing (and many other interesting items useful for decorating).Both events attract a large number or merchants who specialize in reproduction vintage clothing and other items of those times. And you can find many of these merchants on the Internet, as well.

Be aware, though, that while you can usually find a greater variety of items through these merchants in brand new condition, the prices for reproductions can be expensive because of the amount of labor involved in faithfully reproducing construction techniques from a pre-mass production era.

In looking for vintage hats to display on a wall-mounted coat rack, you can either go for a single era, or go eclectic with vintage hats from a number of eras and styles. And don’t forget the eye appeal of including one hat in your collection that drapes a ribbon down beneath. Or consider dangling a vintage umbrella or cane from one hook to create various lengths of items hung from your coat rack.

And the hats you use don’t necessarily need to be formal. Some of the most effective hats I’ve found for decorating have been the well-worn, but extremely unique, vintage hats of everyday laborers.

For a floor-standing coat rack, avoid reproduction or vintage clothing that really needs a hanger for it to look its best. Look instead for drapey items such as cloaks, gowns, shawls, and scarves. Experiment with interweaving a colorful scarf or shawl among dark and elegant formal wear.

Or try hanging a coat or gown by the shoulder instead of by the collar for a casual, asymmetrical look. Include a vintage purse. Or, depending on the effect you want to create, consider the effect that draping some vintage silk stockings or lingerie could add to the accent you create.

The options are endless when it comes to combining coat racks and vintage clothing. Just use a quality coat rack that does justice to what you display and let your imagination, and your decorating taste, be your guide in selecting items to display on it.

20th Century Home Decorating Guide

The custom of appropriate and harmonious treatment of home decorating, interior decorations and suitable furniture, seems to have been in a great measure abandoned during the present century, owing perhaps to the indifference of architects of the time to this subsidiary but necessary portion of their work, or perhaps to a desire for economy, which preferred the cheapness of painted and artificially grained pine-wood, with decorative effects produced by wall papers, to the more solid but expensive though less showy wood-panelling, architectural mouldings, well-made panelled doors and chimney pieces, which one finds, down to quite the end of the last century, even in houses of moderate rentals.

Furniture therefore became independent and “beginning to account herself an Art, transgressed her limits”… and “grew to the conceit that it could stand by itself, and, as well as its betters, went a way of its own.”

Interior Conservatory Finishing
The interiors, handed over from the builder, as it were, in blank, are filled up from the upholsterer’s store, the curiosity shop, and the auction room, while a large contribution from the conservatory or the nearest florist gives the finishing touch to a mixture, which characterizes the present taste for furnishing a boudoir or a drawing room.

There is, of course, in very many cases an individuality gained by the “omnium gatherum” of such a mode of furnishing. The cabinet which reminds its owner of a tour in Italy, the quaint stool from Tangier, and the embroidered piano cover from Spain, are to those who travel, pleasant souvenirs; as are also the presents from friends (when they have taste and judgment), the screens and flower-stands, and the photographs, which are reminiscences of the forms and faces separated from us by distance or death. The test of the whole question of such an arrangement of furniture in our living rooms, is the amount of judgment and discretion displayed. Two favorable examples of the present fashion, representing the interior of the Saloon and Drawing Room at Sandringham House, are here reproduced.

How The Gather Inheritance Influenced On The Home Decorations
There is at the present time an ambition on the part of many well-to-do persons to imitate the effect produced in houses of old families where, for generations, valuable and memorable articles of decorative furniture have been accumulated, just as pictures, plate and china have been preserved; and failing the inheritance of such household gods, it is the practice to acquire, or as the modern term goes, “to collect,” old furniture of different styles and periods, until the room becomes incongruous and overcrowded, an evidence of the wealth, rather than of the taste, of the owner.

As it frequently happens that such collections are made very hastily, and in the brief intervals of a busy commercial or political life, the selections are not the best or most suitable; and where so much is required in a short space of time, it becomes impossible to devote a sufficient sum of money to procure a really valuable specimen of the kind desired; in its place an effective and low priced reproduction of an old pattern (with all the faults inseparable from such conditions) is added to the conglomeration of articles requiring attention, and taking up space.

The limited accommodation of houses built on ground which is too valuable to allow spacious halls and large apartments, makes this want of discretion and judgment the more objectionable. There can be no doubt that want of care and restraint in the selection of furniture, by the purchasing public, affects its character, both as to design and workmanship.

Revitalize Your Interior Walls

Most people would like to revitalize their interior walls with some colorful paint, but are too afraid to make the leap from off-white or beige. The homeowner is afraid that a daring color choice may not match their furniture, will be too bright, and have a host of other reasons.

Painting your walls is a basic element of design and can enhance any room for only $50. Your furniture and artwork can take on a new look with a designer flare just by painting your walls.

So, the first question you may ask is how do I choose the right color? Below are some recommendations to help you choose.

The first recommendation is to choose a tinted neutral. Instead of choosing rich, deep colors for your first project, you will likely feel more comfortable with a neutral color such as beige or gray and thus will not date the room or create a jarring palate that you will easily tire of.

At your local home improvement store, you will be faced with a sea of color swatches – hundreds of versions of basic beige and gray to choose from. So before you visit your local paint store, consider these steps in choosing the right color for you.

If you like the feel of a warm and cozy room – think of fireplaces, brown leather and sunsets – then you’ll want to start with a beige tone.

Now, consider your furniture and accessories. What colors do you see? If you have a lot of black or navy, you may wish to choose beige with orange or pink undertones to keep the look warm. If you have browns or reds in your furniture, select cooler beige with ashy tones to avoid ‘overheating’ your room.

If you prefer a cooler, airy look – chrome, glass, and shades of icy blue – then select gray tones. Some stores will have a ‘true gray’ color swatch which you can use to compare with their designer selections. On comparison, you will notice that each gray has undertones. Some will have blue or lavender tones; others may have green or even a hint of pink.

Using the same guide as stated above, identify the main colors of furniture and accessories in the room. Use green or pink toned grey with cool toned furnishings to avoid it from feeling like an icebox. Use blue or lavender undertones in rooms with warmer colored furnishings.

If you undecided between beige and gray, than the easiest color to work with is green. Keeping it in a muted tone will make it very easy to live with, and will work with most color palates.

Painting your rooms with color will bring a finishing designer touch to your home.

Interior Decorating And Home Decor With Inuit Art From The Arctic North

In order to help give a room a classier touch, interior decorators have used sculptures to bring in a mansion or even museum-like feel to a home. This is particularly true for the interior decorating of living rooms, dens, home offices and hallways. When many people consider sculptures as home decor, the thought comes to ancient Roman or Greek mythological characters like Apollo, Venus or Zeus.

Others think about abstract contemporary fine art sculptures that are sometimes difficult to interpret. Since there has been a trend in recent years towards a more natural look with more earthy color tones for interior decorating, Inuit art from the Canadian Arctic north can fit in nicely as part of home decor.

Most subjects used in Inuit art tend to be focused on the observations that the Inuit people (formerly referred to as Eskimos in Canada) make of their Arctic surroundings whether the pieces are soapstone sculptures or prints of drawings. We often see Inuit art depicting Arctic wildlife including polar bears, seals, whales and walruses as well as lifestyle scenes involving family or hunting. The Inuit have been carving stone sculptures for thousands of years but it was only introduced as fine art to the modern world on a significant scale during the 1950s. Today, Inuit art has gained international recognition as a valid form of contemporary fine art.

Colors of Inuit sculptures tend to be polished shades of blacks, grays, browns, greens and whites. Inuit artists also tend to utilize relatively neutral colors for their art prints which work well with all color ranges of today’s more natural styles of interior decorating. Adding an Inuit sculpture on an end table, mantle or shelf gives a living room or office that gallery touch. An Inuit art print on the wall of a hallway or corridor also works the same way. Since the majority of people especially outside Canada have never seen Inuit art before, such artwork in a home will often end up as conversational pieces with guests.

There are Inuit stone sculptures to suit almost every price range and budget at about $100 to several thousand dollars for large, intricate pieces. Most can be purchased at galleries located in major Canadian cities but there are now a few galleries located in the USA and Europe that specialize in this form of art. Not surprisingly, the latest retail source of Inuit art is on the internet. This development is especially useful for those who are not located near an Inuit art gallery. Check out some examples of Inuit art either in a gallery or online and imagine how a piece or two can be part of your home’s interior decorating.

Used Hotel Furniture For Sale: What To Ask

So now you’ve found some used hotel furniture for sale that you think you want to buy, but you want to make sure that you’re getting good merchandise. What should you ask? Let’s go over some important things to consider so that you can feel as comfortable with your purchase as you will lounging on your new furniture.

Always be sure to find out the quality of the merchandise and when it was originally purchased. Ask about any dents and scratches, stains, and if the item is made of wood then ask if there were ever any pest problems. Used hotel furniture liquidators need to keep their reputations clean, so if you ask they will tell you, but if you don’t ask they might accidentally overlook something. Since these liquidators rarely have a return policy and merchandise is sold as-is, you may regret it if you don’t ask everything.

Look for items other than furniture too. The best deals can often be found on the more portable items to encourage spontaneous purchases. Items like alarm clocks, microwaves, coffee makers, linens, silverware, and bathroom accessories can often be bought for an incredibly good price. I’m talking flea-market low for products that are almost as good as new. Depending on the extent of their remodeling, you may also discover more unusual items like lighting and bathroom fixtures that you might be able to commandeer to do a little remodeling yourself. Remember that even if the items are older, they have been used in a hotel that cleans and repairs them daily so they’re probably going to be in better shape than they would be after the same amount of use in a home.

If you keep an eye on what’s happening with the local hotels you might hear about one bragging about its upcoming remodeling. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to contact the hotel directly and ask about looking at the used hotel furniture before they send it to the liquidators. You might be able to purchase items directly from them for even less money than you would otherwise. If not they will at least let you know which liquidators they plan to use so that you can purchase the goods you’ve just inspected before anyone else has had a chance to get their hands on it.

Find used hotel furniture through hotel furniture liquidators, furniture auctions, and through online shopping at ChoiceHotelFurniture.com

Water purification technology may be complicated, but the general idea is simple: Remove contaminates to make the finished product safer to drink.

In order to do this, there are many methods of water purification to choose from. Some accomplish more than others. Here, we present the basics – you might call it Water Purification Technology 101.

Distillation is one of the oldest known methods of water purification. Water is boiled and steam is collected in another container. The vapor cools, condenses, and turns back into water.

The driving idea is that any contaminate will have a higher boiling point than water, and any bacteria will be killed by the heat.

This water purification technology was developed in ancient times. The flaws did not become apparent until much later.

Anything with a boiling point near or less than water will simply pass to the second container, meaning most chemicals will be unaffected by the process. Also, certain strains of bacteria will not be killed by
boiling.

The most obvious problem though, is minerals.

Distillation was designed to remove anything heavier than water, including essential minerals. The distilled water ends up without nutritional merit, as well as being contaminated with chemicals… and possibly microbes.

Much later, methods of water purification were invented for more efficient desalination. This resulted in the development of Reverse Osmosis.

In order for RO to work, water is pressurized mechanically and pushed through a semi-porous membrane to achieve clean water.

While faster than distillation, the reverse osmosis process is still slow. It’s also very wasteful, requiring four gallons of unfiltered water to get one gallon of filtered water.

The design is also prone to algae growth, requiring regular cleaning. Water purification technology has advanced beyond RO, no matter what the salesmen say.

One of the newer methods of water purification is known as Sub-Micron Filtration.

Water is passed through a synthetic or ceramic membrane to completely remove chlorine-resistant bacterial cysts and E Coli. Either type of membrane can be reused up to fifty times with regular cleaning, but the design cannot remove chemicals.

Electro-Deionization is another of the newer methods of water purification, although it must be preceded by additional steps to be effective. It is considered to be an advanced water purification technology, because it can transpose toxic lead into a harmless substance.

While this system has a definite impact on chemicals and heavy metals, it has no effect on non-ionic contaminates, such as microbes, bacteria, or cysts. It is also very expensive.

Yet another of the newer methods of water purification is known as Ultra-Filtration. A chemically-constructed membrane is custom created to target specific types of microorganisms.

Quite an advancement in water purification technology, but mostly irrelevant to the home market.

We’ve talked a lot about progress in water purification technology, but one of the most effective methods of water purification was developed decades ago, during World War I.

Based around activated carbon, it removes most chemicals, heavy metals, bacterial cysts, and infiltrates. Variations referred to as GAC – or granular activated carbon – add silver to the design, releasing silver ions to kill any bacteria living in the membrane.

The system was not originally invented to purify water, but to negate the effects of chemical weapons. It took many years to apply the idea to water purification technology, and even longer to adapt it for home use.

Planters Made from PVC Look Like Wood

Planters are a great way to add curb appeal to businesses and homes. Planters can be made from almost any material and cast planters have traditionally been the most popular. Cast iron and cement planters are very typical and offer a beautiful look to complement a front entrance to a home or building. Cedar planters are very popular in front of commercial entrances, especially restaurants. Vinyl planters have popped up as a nice affordable alternative to wood that will not rot and PVC planters have come on strong, emerging as an upgrade over vinyl capturing the look of wood and none of the maintenance issues.

The benefits of planters are obvious. They add curb appeal to almost any home or business. Each material choice for planters offer a different asset and look that is unique. Wood planters have always been a popular choice, especially cedar, cypruss, and teak. A good wood planter will typically last 5 years before mother nature begins to take her course. The vinyl planters are able to beat out mother nature in that respect, but have suffered from not being able to be painted and having a shiny finish to them. To solve that puzzle, PVC planters are now available which are paintable and have a matted finish to them. They can be manufactured in custom styles cheaper because they do not require custom moulding. Another advantage to PVC planters is that matching window boxes can be custom built. There are very few materials that can function as both planters and be mounted as window boxes on a home or commercial building. PVC window boxes are the gold standard in the window box industry and matching planters have become increasingly more in demand.

Many businesses nowadays are in need of custom planters that can be long and narrow or wide and tall to fit a specific need. At times, the need is for a corner planter or a long freestanding planter between columns. If you are going to spend money to have custom planters built for your business, consider what your expectations and needs will be down the road 5-10 years. Do you need something custom? Is there a type of look you’re trying to achieve? Does it need to match the home or building? Is cost an issue? If you know the answers to those questions, then you will know exactly what material will best suit your needs for commercial planters.

Matt Buquoi owns Flower Window Boxes – a manufacturing company that makes custom window boxes and PVC planters. He regularly consults with business owners to add curb appeal to their businesses.

A Prudent Way to Choose Bedroom Furniture

Choosing the right furniture for the right bedroom is very important. The bedroom design and person who is gonna live are a few factors that affect you to choose the right bedroom furniture. Moreover, when you find many sites that sell bedroom furniture on the internet, there are various styles and designs of Bedroom Furniture. So, the furniture you choose should reflect the amount of use it gets, and the design preference of the homeowner.

King bedroom furniture, for example, is usually referred for a master bedroom, although queen sized mattresses and beds sell very well, also. The master bedroom furniture should be among the most costly in the home and while you shouldn’t waste a fortune here, you should be sure that you are happy with your bedroom set for a long time. If you have a choice, choose to go king, but you should keep in mind that you have to make the affordable design for you.

If you are planning to put bedroom furniture in the guest’s room or children’s room, affordable bedroom furniture will be necessary. You have to measure before planning on the bed size you’ll put in there.

When you add furniture to the guest room, it will possibly be a lot smaller than the master. Most of the time, a full sized bed is the best choice, though you may be able to insert a queen sized mattress in without making the room feel tight. Your guest room is the one room that will be rarely used, so you’d better to look especially at discounted bedroom furniture. Therefore, you definitely don’t want to waste a lot of money on furniture here.

When you want to buy bedroom furniture for your children, you shouldn’t choose the expensive bedroom furniture, it should be a lifetime investment, something that can be passed from one room to the other in the house as long as you can.

If you are disposed to high end bedroom furniture for your children’s room, two things that probably your children will do: either they rough it up in the action of being a child or they will tire of it very quickly and want something new. Make sure that you choose more affordable bedroom furniture that is also quite versatile and durable to last many years through the rough treatment that children can heap upon it.

But in your own room, it is logical if you spend a little bit extravagant in your bedroom furniture. However, you can always find a way that more prudent, and never be overly generous when it comes to spending money on bedroom furniture. I just hope that your bedroom furniture will make you happy for a long time to come.

Saving Money on Your Grocery Bills

How is your grocery bill month to month? Do you end up spending more than you wanted every month? If you’re at all like me, a working wife and mother, grocery shopping and meal time can be a stressful and time consuming endeavor. And, if getting the meal on the table for a descent price isn’t enough, there is the health issue that factors in. Attempting to provide healthy meals that won’t empty the pocketbook can be difficult to find! With some great tips, you will see the benefits you receive when you start shopping smart and eating at home. It is worth it!

The following are easy ideas to help you save money when you go to the grocery store and when you are at home cooking…

Be creative

If you forgot or forget something at the store think about what else you might be able to use. For example, I have forgotten to grab butter (a staple item) and potato soup was on the menu for the night. I substituted olive oil for butter that night and it worked great!

Use leftovers

For example, if you have stuff left over from week one, use it the next. Use up all salad stuff and things that can go bad, even if you have to create a new meal that isn’t on your meal plan. Wasted food = wasted money.

Be a smart shopper!

I think that often people are not prepared when they do go grocery shopping and end up spending more money than they intended to on food that is not healthy for them. Remember the stuff from the meal plan information!

    * First, do the preparation work at home. Look at the local ads before you go. Make meal plans according to the ads from that week.

    * Second, be flexible! Recently, while at a grocery store, I saw a special on good quality split chicken breast. They were $1.48/lb. which was a savings of $1.41/lb. off what they normally cost. When I saw them, I had never bought split chicken breast and wasn’t sure of the differences when comparing them to regular chicken breast. So, I asked the guy behind the meat counter. He explained that there was a small bone in the back of the meat that could easily be cut or picked out. I was sold! After cooking the meat to make the meals, I think I actually like this cheaper meat better! It was juicier than my normally boiled chicken breasts come out.

    * Third, do not go to the shops hungry! Why does it seem that you rush off to the grocery store and once there, while shopping for food, you suddenly realize that you are very hungry? This almost guarantees that you will spend money on food that you don’t need and is most likely not healthy for you.

Be prepared

When you leave to go shopping, pick a time where you don’t feel rushed. This will better help you to stick to your list and to eating better foods!

Have staples on hand

Here is a list of things to have on hand for cooking and baking. These are the items I have found most helpful. Look through the list and decide what items your family uses – add and subtract items as it makes sense for you and your family.

    * Honey

    * White Flour

    * Wheat Flour

    * Cornmeal

    * Quick Oats

    * Shortening or Lard

    * Oil – olive or grape seed are best

    * Potatoes

    * Yeast

    * Frozen Vegetables (whatever is cheap and your family likes)

    * Mustard

    * White Sugar

    * Brown Sugar

    * Vanilla

    * Herbs/spices – like garlic, cumin, ginger, parsley, oregano, chili, etc.

    * Bouillon Cubes (Chicken)

    * Bread Crumbs

    * Soy Sauce

    * Worcester Sauce

    * Butter (tub)

    * Sticks of Butter

    * Cornstarch

Start meal planning!

What is a meal plan, you might be thinking. A meal plan is exactly that, putting together a plan for your meals – deciding what you are going to eat and putting it in to practice. There are many reasons to have a meal plan. Here are a few of those reasons and why they are important.

    * Save money through a meal plan – Make a meal plan according to ingredients. Put recipes and meals together so that ingredients are not wasted because they are not needed and are, therefore, unused.

    * Save time through having a plan and shopping lists – When you go to the grocery store, you will have a list to go from and won’t by unneeded or overpriced items.

    * Spend more time together as a family – With a meal plan, you will consequently eat more at home. Dinnertime is a great opportunity to talk and spend time together. Take advantage of this!

    * Save energy – With a meal plan you will make fewer trips to the grocery store. A meal plan enables you to stop thinking about what you’ll make for dinner that night, what ingredients you still need for it, and how to put it together. A meal plan helps you to be organized!

    * Eat healthier – You won’t be going out as much with a meal plan ready for you – this will help you eat healthier foods at home! You will eat a better variety of foods since you’ve thought about it ahead of time. You can plan for healthier meals and start to understand what is going into your body. Thinking through the food you eat will automatically make you more aware and hopefully help you make wise decisions!

Organizing craft supplies

Involving ones self in craft works is a great way to relieve ourselves from the stresses that overpower us in the form of our every day tasks and responsibilities. Therefore, it is important that we remember that the art of crafting is primarily aimed at stress relief, not accumulating them all the more.

One can experience some good times being involved in the arts and crafts. The very experience in enriched as it calls for the element of inventiveness within; that very inventiveness, is otherwise almost never sought after. It gets even more enhanced and refined if we can device ways for craft supplies that are well organized. It is a matter of simple sense that there is a direct bearing of the nature of craft supplies ready at hand and the most that we can make out of our crafting efforts. Once we make sure that the craft supplies are in perfect condition, it is never stressful to get hold of the various things that we may possibly need to indulge in our craft work. This also allows one to indulge in greater degrees of innovation as one item or another may slip in to the peripheral vision and invoke creativity.

In order to make sure that the craft supplies are in perfect desired condition, we need to follow a few important steps that will ensure that the craft work is a real fun. It is not that there is only one type of craft work that all people take to. You, therefore, first need to decide on the particular type of craft work that appeals to you the most and which you really find quite delightful. There are several cases where people try one type, get hold of the craft supplies, and then, after spending a good deal of time with that, come to the conclusion that this type of craft is not the right thing for them. Do not let this happen with you as well. Take your time, relax, and come to the decision as to what kind of craft supplies will be the ideal thing for you. This is the first step to your task of organization.

Give yourself some time to go through all the boxes of craft supplies. You should never hurry in this work. It should be one box at a time. Throw away all the garbage and also make a note of such craft items that are of no use for your purpose. You can donate those items to others who will enjoy using the items in their craft work. On the other hand, you will have only such items left as your craft supplies that are useful for your craft work.

Keep a tab of the craft supplies that you already have and the ones that you may need in future. Plan and devise the most effective ways for storing those items. For this, you have to well assess your needs. It may be that your work needs you to travel a lot in your car. In that case, you should organize the craft supplies in such a way that you can easily store them in baggage. There are also several other considerations such as whether they need protection from insects or moisture, and so on.

Make Your Boutique Look Best with Fancy Store Fixtures

Way to go! Your niche market has been located, you’ve found the most adorable boutique, and you have already signed the lease. Permits and other legal necessities are complete, suppliers are in order to start shipping you the goods, and the utilities are on. At this time it is vitally important to furnish the boutique with store fixtures.

Customers experience shopping using all five of their senses. That’s why you will need visual merchandising to stage the boutique. Pay attention to visual displays and layouts, which are key elements for improving presentation and advancing traffic flow. The need to research the total visual picture of the boutique including the merchandise and store fixtures is extremely important.

Is the design of the store fixtures really that important? If your boutique is next to a dollar store, then your walk-in customers will expect normal fixtures and cheap merchandise. Yet your fancy store fixtures will probably increase buyers if you have an upscale location with more competition.

Consider buying from the Vintage Boutique Collection instead of the standard racks and fixtures of chrome tubing. In the Vintage Boutique Collection the displays are finished in a powder coated finish called Hammertone Pewter. With the combination of graceful scrolls and its fine finish, you can create a very elegant atmosphere. Available in various styles, the Vintage Boutique Collection fulfills every display need. Larger scale displays include T-racks, rolling racks, and spiral customers and each come in the fine Hammertone pewter with the charming scroll design on base and ends. Also available in this collection are matching tabletop displays for items such as purses and earrings.

You will pay slightly more for special fixtures, of course. You may wonder if it is truly a good value, given the initial cost. Wouldn’t it be fine to start the business with the standard fixtures for now and upgrade down the road? If you ask me, the answer is no. Your grand opening will be your one and only chance to make that very important first impression. You want your new customers to experience a warm and inviting buying atmosphere created by your store decor and fixtures. The Vintage Boutique Collection boasts high quality and luxurious features, which will please your customers and entice them to purchase other items.

It is not a good idea to start out cheap with plans to upgrade later. The payoff of the elegant first impression on the initial interest given to a new store will have been missed and the cost would be double if you pay twice for fixtures.

When opening a new boutique, decor is a decision of vital importance, and you should not undertake it without guidance. Consult with experts in the field of custom designed store interiors. In order to display your merchandise to its fullest potential, discuss your options with a retail display solutions professional. You will never regret seeking expert assistance in designing your boutique.

Basics of a Kitchen Vegetable Garden

The only thing that distinguishes a kitchen vegetable garden from any other sort is that the garden plants are specifically selected to be eaten. Given that, the primary consideration in choosing your plants is what you will use, either for your own consumption or as trade items at a local farmer’s market. (Of course the climate in your area and the length of the growing season are also major factors.)

Your primary goals are to save money, to provide yourself with a healthy source of fresh food, and to have some fun in the process. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as seeing something you’ve grown with your own hands on your dinner table. But how to start?

Where to Plant Your Garden

Obviously you can only use the land available to you, if there is any, or you can augment what space you have with containers. Figure out how much room your plug plants will need and plan accordingly. Tomatoes and peppers grow to a large size and do quite well in containers with cages for stabilization. Carrots and lettuce, on the other hand, do well planted in rows.

If you or someone you know is handy with tools and if you have access to a little lumber and some screening material to use in the base of the boxes for drainage, you can use terraced, graduated beds and plant stands to squeeze in as much growing room as possible. Pick a place with plenty of sun that is well drained. Herbs, for instance, take six to eight hours of sun per day.

Your soil will need to be well turned and most likely enriched with a good quality bedding soil available from your local plant nursery. Make sure that the soil your purchase is appropriate for the plants you’ve selected. Talk with the staff at the nursery and they will help you select the right materials as well as any fertilizers that might be necessary based on your soil type. (It’s not a bad idea to take in a small sample of soil for their examination.)

What to Plant in Your Garden

If you want to start small and get a lot of bang for your buck, begin with tomatoes. A single plant can produce more than 100 lbs. of tomatoes over a growing season, an estimate that is actually on the low side. Since tomatoes in the store average 1-2£ ($2-4 USD) per pound and because they are so versatile (tomato juice, sauces, salsas, or simply eaten fresh), the plants alone can significantly augment your diet while being kind to your pocket book. The volume you produce will also make it easy to share with family and friends or to trade your tomatoes at a farmer’s market for other kinds of vegetables. (Pepper plants are equally hardy and prolific.)

Other garden staples to consider include:

• Lettuce, which naturally compliments the tomatoes.
• Carrots.
• Okra and eggplant, which are well suited for small “left over” spaces.
• Herbs, which are excellent for spicing dishes, a fragrant addition to your yard, and often a natural insect repellant. Good herb choices include: anise, coriander, dill, fennel, and perennials like thyme, oregano, chives, tarragon, sage, and rosemary.

If you don’t plant any other herbs, go with the rosemary. It’s incredibly hardy, smells wonderful, is excellent for cooking meats, and can even be dried into potpurri.

How to Tend Your Garden

Frankly, the biggest investment you will most likely spend on your garden won’t be monetary, but will rather be a commitment in time planting, weeding, and watering. When you purchase your plants, discuss their needs with the nursery staff. It’s always a good idea to select things with similar watering requirement or to arrange your garden in such a way that segments can be watered separately, with some areas receiving more and others less. Learn what insects are likely to damage your plants, how to watch for them, and what to do when they show up. (You don’t want to just use any insecticide on your garden. Remember, you’re going to be eating these plants!)

In most cases it’s a good idea to start small and to add to and expand your garden in subsequent growing seasons as you get more comfortable selecting and caring for your plants. You’ll have some failures; everyone does, it’s just part of the process. But you’ll also augment your diet with healthy, fresh food, cut down on your grocery bill, and create a fun activity for your family or for yourself (and get some exercise in the process.)

A Canadian Father’s Day

Father’s Day is approaching really fast.

The third Sunday in June is used by families to honor the father figures in our lives, whether it is our dad, granddad, uncle or someone else.

Father’s Day is typically known for its games of pickup basketball, football and of course a hearty barbecue. So this Father’s Day, show him how special he is and indulge in buying a well thought about present.

We have all heard the stereotype that men are too stubborn to ask for directions. Well, why not help Dad out and make sure that he never has to ask again. One of the top gifts this year for Father’s Day is a GPS device. The original consumer GPS devices provided little more than latitude and longitude. But today’s consumer GPS can provide 3-D maps, voice over directions, real time traffic and Points of Interest. Take the Garmin Nuvi 350 for example. The Garmin Nuvi 350, can provide directions with the street name, and can alter driving routes based on current traffic conditions. Dad will never have to ask for directions again and will be amazed by how quickly he is finding his destinations around town.

But let’s say dad already knows where he is going, and that just happens to be on a summer trip. A great gift idea for the traveling dad would be a new digital camera. Digital cameras offer a plethora of advantages over their traditional 35mm counterparts.

You don’t have to be a professional photographer to appreciate today’s digital cameras. For the less tech savvy Dad, a new point and shoot camera is the way to go. These are the more compact devices that can easily be slipped into a pocket. The smaller sized cameras are packed with features these days and are of the highest quality with some having a resolution of 10 mega pixels. Many of the major brands offer a series of cameras such as the Canon Powershot, Kodak Easyshare and Fuji Finepix. If your dad takes photography seriously a new Digital SLR will turn him into a professional in no time. Digital SLR cameras are generally larger than the point and shoot, but will have a lot more options, both in settings and accessories like interchangeable lenses and external flashes. With all of the options in digital cameras it is important to think about what is most important. Maybe dad wants to have a really durable camera that he can take everywhere.. or perhaps he wants an extremely high quality camera that can take pictures with really high resolution.

And what about those Dad’s who are still buying records. This Father’s Day would be a great opportunity to get him a new mp3 player. There are some great options like the Creative Labs Zen, but this market is still dominated by the Apple iPod. Apple now has a wide variety of options for the iPod, from the small iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano to the larger iPod Classic and the iPod Touch. But if you want to make sure that everyone knows your Dad is up to date with the latest and greatest, then a great gift idea for this Father’s Day would be the Apple iPhone.

As we get together for Father’s Day this year let’s remember that nothing says Dad like a good barbecue. But don’t let Dad do the grilling this year over a bunch of burning sticks or the burning trashcan he may have used in college. Instead, he can pretend that he is Bobby Flay if he is doing the grilling on a brand new Weber, Kenmore or Vermont BBQ. Or of a new BBQ was last year’s Father’s Day gift, let’s help dad perfect his food firing flair with some great barbecue tools or a grill topper.

To see all of these products or to get some more gift ideas for this Father’s Day, you can visit online shopping sites, where you will find a wide selection of many great products at great prices that will no doubt help you show Dad just how special he is this Father’s Day.

Aquarium Care for Freshwater Fish

Freshwater fish are perhaps the easiest fish to care for in comparison to saltwater species because they are usually hardier fish. A basic aquarium set up will be required. You will need a tank, some rocks or substrate to line bottom of the tank. You will also need a filter, and some lighting. When choosing fish, it is imperative to make sure the fish are compatible. Not only do they need to be compatible for water temperature and P.H., but they also should have similar food requirements. Try to keep the fish relatively the same size. It has been said that if a fish is small enough to fit in another fishes mouth, that is usually where it ends up. So don’t be discouraged if this happens. Even fish that have been housed together for several months have been known to disappear on occasion.

Freshwater fish should be fed twice daily. Feed only a small amount that can be consumed within the first two to five minutes. Over feeding is a common mistake among novice fish keepers. Any excess food should be lifted with a net if possible, as it will become debris and quickly dirty the tank. Water should be kept regulated and tested weekly. Any discrepancies in P.H. and water temperature should be corrected immediacy in order to minimize stress caused to the fish. Stress is significant because it causes illness in fish. It is important to monitor the activity and overall well being of the fish in an aquarium. The signs of stress will be fairly obvious. Slow moving or lethargic looking fish will require a stress coat that can be purchased at a local pet store. Try to avoid overcrowding the tank. This should help to reduce the amount of stress caused to the fish.

Change about a third of the water in the aquarium at a time, because this type of change will cause the least amount of disturbance to the fish and other inhabitants. This will need to be done every two to three weeks. Use either a bucket or a siphon to remove the water from the tank. Try to remove any loose or floating debris at this time. When adding the new water to the aquarium, be sure that it is within approximately two degrees of the tank water. The sides of the aquarium should be scrubbed regularly to remove an algae build up. Again be careful not to disturb the fish. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after handling the aquarium. Lastly, check the manufacturer’s recommendation on filters and change them accordingly. Filters collect any fish waste or left over food. They can’t function properly unless they are clean.

Introduce hardy fish to a new tank. These fish can withstand higher nitrite levels that are present in a new aquarium. Choose fish such as danios, barbs, gouramis, and live bearers. Don’t add more than three to four small fish per week. Acclimation times vary per species, so check with your retailer before adding any other new fish.

Choosing the Best Plants for your Garden

Many times we buy plants on impulse then find there is nowhere in the garden that really suits them. Before buying plants carefully examine your garden to see how much sun and shade it gets, whether the soil is well drained or waterlogged and whether your aspect is sheltered or windswept. You’ll then be equipped to go and buy the best plants for your situation; shade-loving plants for the sheltered areas, sun-lovers for the warm spots, drought-resistant plants for the parched areas which may be either sunny or shaded, and swamp plants for the poorly-drained parts.

But wait! Test your soil first, to determine the pH level of your soil and what kind of nutrients you need to add, if any. Is the soil acid or alkaline? Most plants prefer soil that is slightly acidic, but there are some that must have alkaline soil to grow. You can alter the soil’s pH level, but it’s much easier to simply plant for the soil you have.

Now you are ready to plant. Well – almost. Will you plant in groups or singly? If you buy ‘one of everything’ your garden may seem rather spotty. Group plantings are organized, harmonious and you can vary the color for interest.

Before planting out, place your chosen plants around the garden bed in their pots to see how they will look. Re-arrange them until you are satisfied. Grouping plants in sets of threes or fives usually looks better than planting in groups of even numbers. Be sure that you have an interesting combination of colors and textures of plants. Tall plants should go to the back, or the center if your garden will be viewed equally from all sides. Try to keep your plants away from trees. The roots of trees are fiercely competitive and will steal all the nutrients and moisture meant for your flowers.

The right color scheme is one way to maintain the harmony in your garden. Imagine the color of the flowers when they are in bloom. Some colors may clash with others, but can still be planted side-by-side if they have a different blooming season. Foliage color is also important. Many flower plants have silver, grey or purplish foliage that is just as attractive as the flower. This means that they are still attractive well past the blooming season and so have added value.

Instructions On How To Make Paper Flowers

Since you are looking for instructions on how to make paper flowers I’d also like to assure you of how easy it can be, enjoyable and stress relieving.

Making or creating paper flowers has been a marvelous hobby of people of all ages from many generations before us, and hopefully many generations to come. There is an element of warmth you get after making a paper flower.

In this fast pace world we live in, taking the little bit of time to actually sit down and make a paper flower is both a stress reliever and a mind defogger. You can leave all your cares and worries from your place of employment behind and do something that is both relaxing and possibly useful for your next party.

There are only a handful of items that are needed for this project and they can all be found at the local hobby, or arts store. The first main supply is the crepe paper. It comes in single and double, depending on the number of flowers you are making. Scissors: 1 light weight pair to cut and shape the leaves or petals and a heavy pair for multiple layers of the crepe paper. Paste: the regular type with a hard brush. Tissue paper: This is used for creating all of the leaves. Also, you need a pencil, some florist tape, pins, wire, metal paper clips, and an artificial stamen.

Once you have all the items listed above, you can now begin to make your own personalized paper flower.

1. Start with 12-16 pieces of different sized, colored crepe paper. Stack all the papers in a neat pile and now use a pencil to draw the pattern, of your choice of a flower on the top sheet of paper in the pile.

2. Using the metal paper clip, fasten all the pieces of crepe paper together. Now, use the heavy scissors to cut out the pattern you made.

3. Arrange all the sheets of paper from largest to smallest in a pile making the largest on the bottom and the smallest on the top. With the pin, poke a hole in the middle of the petals of your flower.

4. Put all the petals together, starting at the bottom, to make a flower. Then put the wire into the whole in the center. You don’t want the wire to slip out of the whole so twist one end. Now, where you stuck the wire use the florist tape to tape the petals here.

5. Now, choose your own design and make a leaf pattern. Use the green tissue paper and cut out the pattern with the light scissors.

6. Next, stick the leaves to the stem of the flower with the florist tape.

7. It’s an optional feature, but you could add the artificial stamen to the middle of the flower.

*You can repeat this process and create as many different flowers as you desire.

Making paper flowers is a very inexpensive, and fairly easy hobby to do if you follow my instructions. Once you have mastered the main technique of paper flower making, you will want to make more detailed and larger creations and the possibilities will then be endless. Happy folding…

Build Self Esteem While Teaching Your Child To Self-Advocate

From the time our children are very little, we teach them to respect authority as well as adults in general. We start when they are babies, encouraging them to give bye-bye kisses, wave bye-bye to their adoring fans, be quiet when an adult is talking, asking permission of an adult if they want something other than their toys, etc. The older they get, the more messages we send to respect their elders. Although our goal is to have polite and respectful children, we also don’t want them to become targets for unworthy adults or feel they have to remain silent even when the situation is unjust to the child.

A child is in a tough position. After teaching them to respect authority and listen to what they are told to do and they readily comply, what about the times when the child truly feels wronged? Do you step in as the parent and fix the problem? Or should your child learn to solve the problems themselves?

How about a happy medium? Let’s use the following example:

Your child gets detention at school for talking during class time. Your child is very upset. The teacher was writing on the chalkboard. A group of children were talking and trying to engage your child in the conversation. Your child turned to the friends and tried to shush them just as the teacher turned around. The whole group got detention.

You get the phone call from the teacher and the detention takes place during lunch recess. Your son/daughter comes home from school VERY upset. The punishment is already complete so there is no taking it back regardless of innocence or guilt. So, what can you do?

These types of situations need to be analyzed by the parents. First, sort out how your child is feeling.

Does your son/daughter have a case of the short term irritations and can shake them off in no time? If so, it is best to just let them walk it off and learn life isn’t always fair.

But what if they just feel so wronged that they can’t get past it?

Sit down and brain-storm with your child. Try to find out their real issue. Is it… they want an acknowledgment that the teacher rushed to judgment, are they looking for your affirmation that you believe they were innocent, do they need to articulate their side to the teacher… help them dig deep and talk about their issues.

If they decide that they just can’t accept the teacher believing they were guilty, schedule a meeting with the teacher. Let your child do the talking. Even if your child is shy, be patient. Give him/her time to sort through their feelings and put the words together. Be present but silent. Chances are the teacher and child will work out the issue to a satisfactory conclusion.

When you leave the school with your child, watch how they walk. They will walk a little taller knowing their feelings were heard and they solved an issue agreeably with all parties.

This process works well with any conflict, even issues between classmates. When they learn to pick their battles, speak for themselves in a respectful manner, then we as parents know we have done a good job! Our children are on their way to becoming an emotionally healthy adult.
