Kid Halloween Party Game Ideas for a Ghoulish Good Time

Ghost and goblin guests will have fun playing these kid Halloween party game ideas, and you’ll have fun making them!

One of the best game ideas is the Pumpkin Pinatas

All Soul’s Night is a big celebration in Mexico, and piñatas are a common Mexican party favor. Mix up these two traditions for the spookiest piñata ever!

1. Prepare your pumpkin piñata at least a day in advance of your Halloween party, and get the kids involved. Making a piñata is safe, easy and fun! What you’ll need: newspaper; papier mache paste (the easiest recipe I’ve found is three parts lukewarm water to two parts white flour, blended until smooth); orange, black and green paint; white glue; orange, black and green tissue paper; string; 1 big round balloon; treats!

2. Tear some of the newspaper into long, 1 to 1 ½ inch-wide strips. This is for the papier mache. Twist and shape the rest of the newspaper into a flat, round ‘pumpkin top’ with a stem.

3. Blow up and tie the balloon.

4. Dip individual newspaper strips into your papier mache paste, and stick them to your balloon. Cover the entire balloon with one layer of newspaper, but leave a hole the size of your pumpkin top. Also cover your pumpkin top and stem with one layer of newspaper. Allow it to dry completely.

5. Wrap the middle of a long piece of string around the base of your balloon, and bring the ends up to the top (where the hole is). Tape the string to your pumpkin, but leave about half a foot of string free at the top. Tie the ends together.

6. Repeat step 4 twice, so that your pumpkin piñata has three layers of papier mache. Any thicker, and the kids won’t be able to break it!

7. Pop and remove the balloon.

8. Paint your pumpkin! You don’t need to paint it perfectly, but decorating will be easier if you’ve got a basic painted design. Color the pumpkin and pumpkin top orange and your stem green, and use black paint to make a Jack o’ Lantern face. Make it scary so the kids will want to hit it!

9. Tear tissue paper into small squares (don’t be too fussy). Glue the tissue squares to your piñata, orange on orange, black on black, etc.

10. Fill your pumpkin piñata with treats! Halloween candy, plastic spiders and skeletons, Halloween stickers, pencils and spooky vampire teeth make great piñata stuffers. Use your imagination!

11. Glue your pumpkin top to your pumpkin piñata. You’re ready to go!

The rules are simple for this fun kid Halloween party game. Hang your pumpkin piñata by its string, low enough that your smallest kids can reach it with a hitting stick. Each kid gets a turn. When it’s her turn, each player is blindfolded and given a ‘witches broom’ to hit the piñata with. Spin her around once, twice, three times, and point her in the direction of the target.

Each player gets three swings at the piñata, before it’s someone else’s turn. Keep going until one of them breaks the piñata. To spare feelings, keep some extra treats on hand – some kids are faster at gathering treats than others!

These simple and fun kid Halloween party game ideas are a sure way to keep your ghosts and goblins Halloween party happy!
