Just like the trucks themselves trailers should be subject to regular safety checks and recorded periodical maintainence schedules based on either working hours or milage covered. The problem with all moving parts is that they do sometimes have a tendency to work loose and this can even include (and often does) road wheels amongst other major components. At least if propriety parts for trailers are fitted buy skilled mechanics there is a lot less risk of anything going horribly wrong out there on the road.
