Promises – Never Break Them In A Relationship

What is a promise? It is a pledge or an assurance given by one person to other that he/she will act exactly as promised. The other person can rest assured that the promise will not be broken under any circumstances. In this case, circumstances word is very significant. Because even if the promise is made in total sincerity, the circumstances are taken as an excuse for breaking them.

At times, the cost of keeping the promise unbroken can be very high. But no matter what is that cost, the breaking of a promise is a bigger sin. By breaking a promise, we hurt the other party. We kill the faith of the other party in humanity and its words. One must think about the value of the promise for the one to whom it was made. Why do we promise something to someone? Because both the parties agree that if the promise is broken, the other person will be hurt. Why is the promise accepted? The promise is accepted only if one who makes the promise is believed to be a truthful and honest person. No one believes upon the promises made by liars.

Let us look at a scenario. Say, a wife makes a promise to her husband. The wife is going out for a long period and the husband is promised that whatever may be the temptation, or need, she will never indulge in any activity that hurts him. The husband takes his wife’s word as a gospel truth and feels very happy and proud about her. What if she breaks the promise at the first opportunity? What if she lies to him about that, after he gets a hint that she has broken the promise? And what if she defends herself about breaking the promise and lying by accusing the husband and asking him if he never lied or broke a promise? Imagine the hurt she will give to her husband with her action. If he is a simple and innocent person who believes that everyone in the world is like him? He will be devastated forever.

Even if the wife breaks the relationship after breaking the promises, so that she does not have to explain her conduct and feel sorry about that, she would have succeeded in breaking not only a promise, but devaluing a honest person in all the possible ways. I don’t know if you believe in hell, but if there is one, this wife will be sent to that hell forever. This example talks of a wife. This is equally true about husbands, and even amongst friends. A promise is sacrosanct. To break a promise given to a honest person, who has accepted that promise in all sincerity is like hitting a small kid repeatedly.

Why I use the repeatedly, because whenever the husband remembers about the broken promise, he will experience the same hurt again. He will be a changed person forever, and doomed to live a life of pain that overflows from his heart.

Some people are childlike and they still believe that the world is full of truthful and honest people. They have yet not realized that the reality is contrary. If one makes a promise to such a person and breaks it easily as if it never mattered, one may not be hauled before the court of law for killing a person’s spirit, but the crime is equal.

Understanding Domestic Violence Law in Orange County

Domestic violence is a very personal and painful experience, and it requires handling by trained professionals who are experienced and compassionate. The first step in a domestic violence case is to protect the victim from any more abuse. This can be done with court orders that can be obtained with the help of an attorney who specializes in family law.

Domestic violence law in Orange County defines domestic violence as the following:

• Threats of injury by hitting or using a weapon • Actual physical behavior that hurts the person • Forced sexual behavior and harassment • Psychological abuse that deflates a person’s self esteem or attempts to control the person • Stalking or cyberstalking

If any of these actions occur, domestic violence law in Orange County allows a victim to request a protective order from the court to stop the abusive behavior. These protective orders can be sought for an abusive spouse, but they can also be obtained against a sexual partner, family member or roommate. It is best to request one of these orders as soon as possible after the abuse occurs, since courts are more likely to provide orders on an emergency basis in these cases. However, a delay in reporting the abuse should never be a reason for not reporting it at all, since domestic violence law in Orange County allows victims to file for protection at any time in the process.

A protective order in these cases usually consists of a temporary restraining order or TRO. These orders will prohibit the other person from approaching the victim at home, at work or over the phone. The order may also force the spouse to go into counseling and prohibit him from purchasing a firearm. The order may even extend to children and others living in the home if their safety is also at stake. If the person violates the restraining order in any way, the police can be called and an arrest can be made.

According to domestic violence law in Orange County, these restraining orders are registered in a statewide database. This makes it much easier to track and respond to abusers who choose to violate those orders in any way. If someone has a need to seek a restraining order, the best approach is to contact an attorney who is well versed in domestic violence law in Orange County to help with the process. This professional can also help to ensure that the order is enforced and that appropriate measures are taken if it is violated.

Domestic violence is a painful situation that happens far too often. However, there are steps that can be taken to ensure that abuse of any kind that is inflicted on a victim is stopped once and for all. Under domestic violence law in Orange County, a restraining order can be placed to protect the victim and the rest of the family if necessary. If you have been the victim of any sort of domestic abuse, contact an Orange County family attorney right away to find out what your rights are and how to make the violence stop

Sitemaps 101 – Benefits of and Tips on Designing a Sitemap

Have you ever wondered how a search engine works? It must be fascinating figuring out how this search tool could direct you to several websites that are relevant to your keywords. Or, have you experienced instances where the link that supposedly contains your keywords is not exactly what you have in mind? You would probably think that there must be something wrong with the search engine that it generated irrelevant results.

How does a search engine work? Two things figure greatly in making search engines work effectively and efficiently: the electronic search spider and the sitemap.

What is a sitemap? A sitemap is basically a page or pages that serve/s as a directory by listing all the links to all documents and files found in a website. It is not merely a random listing of links, but organized in such a way that it gives the web user an idea of how all the information that can be found in the site fits into an outline or framework. It is like viewing the table of contents of a book, or viewing the “concept map” of the site’s content.

What is a spider? In SEO language, spider is not an animal found in your closet. This electronic search spider is actually a bot which collects data and copies content to be stored in the search engine’s database when keywords are fed into the search dialogue box. The spider reads the content of the site and sends another bot to follow the links and copy the content contained in them.

What purpose does a sitemap serve? A sitemap like any other map gives directions to a navigator. It primarily targets search engine spiders so that they are properly directed to your site and to the links where keywords entered in the search dialogue appears. As such, it is actually a useful tool in search engine optimization. A well organized site map would guide the spider to find the information it needs when keywords are entered during a search operation.

As an additional beneficial consequence, sitemaps have proven to be useful even to web users. Since a sitemap displays all the links to information found in a website, it helps the user to search for a particular topic in mind. Many users also use the sitemap to navigate between pages in a site.

What are the benefits of having a sitemap for my website?

1.No page would be left unturned Going back to the purpose of sitemaps, having one would mean faster and easier tracking and crawling of spiders all over your site. As a result, search engines would surely get to the view all the pages of your site and not just the pages containing random keywords.

2.Easier navigation for site visitors Once a web user has accessed your sitemap, they need not go back to the search engine page to look for what they need. If what they are looking for is in your site, then they would have an easier and faster way of locating it.

3.Potential advertising value If it so happens that a relevant product or service company reaches your site, then it would be easier for them to see how best they can position themselves in the different pages of your site as a paid page advertisement.

4.Encourage greater traffic to your site If your company website has a sitemap then potential buyers would have an easier time in accessing your latest products and services. Moreover, they would not miss out on any product that might be off future interest to them since the sitemap would display all information found the site.

How are sitemaps formatted? There are at least three major types of sitemaps: indexed, full categorical, and restricted categorical. An indexed site map appears as an alphabetical listing or directory. A full categorical map displays all links classified into categories; while a restricted categorical sitemap displays all links listed in a chosen category at a time. The full and restricted sitemaps are very similar except that the former displays all links in all categories all at once in a page, while the latter focuses only the links under the selected category for easier and less eye-straining viewing.

The most widely used format is the full categorical. Based on the results of a 1999 SURL study on sitemap designs, the full categorical format is most preferred by users since it is easier to search for topics within the site and it allows easier comparison between and among categories.

Some tips in setting up your sitemap

1.Link the sitemap only to your homepage. This is to ensure that the spider starts searching from your homepage down to all the pages listed in your sitemap. In this way, no page would be left unvisited by the spider.

2.Do not go beyond 30 pages for a sitemap. Large websites having 50 or more pages should not go beyond 30 since this adds more pages to the site, and might make search engines think that the sitemap is a link farm. Also, this prevents overcrowding of links which could be tiring to view.

3.Check all the links listed in your sitemap. It can be discouraging when you click on a link only to find out that nothing is displayed. Test your sitemap; click all links in every page to make sure that all links are indeed linked to the right page.

4.Give keyword-rich titles to sitemap links. Keyword-rich titles give your site more advantage in being searched properly under the right category. But be sure to have this sitemap link linked back to the sitemap (e.g. back to sitemap).

5.Provide a short description for the links in the sitemap. Doing so would give readers a better idea of what to find in the link and save them time on surfing.

6.Be consistent in designing your sitemap with the other pages of the site. Employ a recurring design and the same HTML template for all pages to establish identity and build character to your website.

Now that you have learned basic things about sitemaps, maybe it is time for you to build one for your site.

Religion in Venice of North

The historic churches located in the Amsterdam city centre form the core of an important group of large historic buildings. The various churches of Amsterdam can be distinguished into three groups the medieval Gothic churches, 17th and 18th century Renaissance and Classicist churches and finally the 19th century churches built in what are commonly called revival styles.

What is so striking of Amsterdam churches that how large and empty they seem as compared to the Gothic cathedrals of France. In the beginning all of them were built as Catholic churches, later on all ornamentations and imagery was removed during the reformation.

The Oude Kerk or the Old Church was originally called Church of St. Nicholas. It is the oldest building in Amsterdam. The first church which was built on the site of the present Gothic building was erected circa 1300. Soon the necessity arose to build a second church. The Church of Our Lady or Nieuwe Kerk or New Church was designed as a branch church to the Oude Kerk. However, it was not long before the younger church surpassed its older forerunner. Apart from these two major churches there are many smallish Gothic chapels, some of them belonging to the Amsterdam convents (Engelse Kerk, Waalse Kerk). The medieval churches were by definition Roman Catholic churches named after saints. After the Reformation they were taken over by the Protestants, who soon suppressed all references to Catholic saints. The church of St. Nicholas became the Oude Kerk (Old Church); the church of Our Lady became the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) and two chapels, originally devoted to St. Olof or St. Odulphus and the Miracle of Amsterdam were renamed the Oudezijds and Nieuwezijds chapels respectively.

The chaos brought about by the Reformation and the quarrel with the Catholic king of Spain resulted in Amsterdam becoming a Protestant city. In the end, only those who belonged to the Dutch Reformed Church were allowed freedom of worship. They were permitted to equip their churches with towers. All other religious denominations, with the exception of the influential Jewish community, were forced underground.

Religious gatherings of other religious groups were accepted on the condition that their buildings were not recognizable as churches from the outside. The Roman Catholics in town held Masses in so-called conventiclers, churches disguised as ordinary houses and equipped with collapsible altars and movable furniture. In this way the ‘church’ could be turned into a house at will. The best-known conventicler, which survives today and is now a museum, is Ons’ Lieve Heer op Solder – Our Lord in the Attic.

Zuiderkerk or the South Church is an attractive 17th-century church, designed by Hendrick de Keyser. It is the first Protestant church in The Netherlands. The Zuiderkerk’s tower ranks among the finest towers in Amsterdam and is nearly 262 feet high. Climbing to the top of the tower gives visitors a panoramic view over the city. No longer used as a church Zuiderkerk now houses an exhibition on town planning.

Westerkerk or West Church is another Protestant Church having a tower crowned by a blue orb and crown and gilded weathercock and rising to a height of 276 feet above the city. This magnificent 17th-century Renaissance church is one of the city’s most important landmarks. It has the honor of the place where Queen Beatrix was married in 1966, and reputedly the site of Rembrandt’s grave. One has to climb the steps of the tower to see the carillon, and marvel at the breathtaking views afforded over the Amsterdam skyline.

Amsterdam Along the Ij

Nowadays there is no better place when talking about Amsterdam than the northern part of the city. Each time I have to cross the IJ by ferry, the river which divides the northern part of Amsterdam from the old center, I notice all over again how joyful it is to watch the sun through the small waves of the river. Unfortunately, this enjoyment does not take long. Exactly at the moment of feeling the rhythm of the waves the journey ends: you have to leave the ferry.

Getting from the north of the city to the center takes about 3 to 4 minutes. The IJ is a small river. When you are on the northern part you can easily hear the voices coming from the Central Station on the other end. Nevertheless, when living in North Amsterdam you don’t really have the feeling of living in the center or even in Amsterdam itself.

Although the city has a worldwide known name, nobody abroad believes that it has only a population of eight hundred thousand people. Nearly everybody expects a city with a billion of inhabitants likewise other cities with known names. But the citizens of Amsterdam know that their city is not comparable to London or Paris. Modestly, they call their city ‘a big village’. I wonder whether this is an appropriate nomination. You would expect villagers to stay closer to each other, even those living in a big one. The given example of the North denies this.
Recently, on July 2nd, the council of the city organized for the first time ‘the day of Amsterdam’ on the Dam Square, aiming ‘to bring the different cultures of the city closer to each other’. There was music and audition of some popular artists and famous faces of the city. In spite of many announcements there were not more then some hundred people, half of them tourists anyway, when the council general declared that he was in love with the city. The council quickly found a culprit for the disinterest: the sun was shining, so people would prefer other places than the Dam square.

Some of the online readers of a popular rightwing newspaper have given another explanation for the failure: “Amsterdam exists for the bigger part by illegal foreigners and tourists. The real citizens of Amsterdam have flied years ago.”

Amsterdam has recently started with multiple projects around the IJ to get off its 17th century image and to create a new basis for its growth outside the tired city center. New cultural buildings, living units and business centers arise behind the Central Station which used to be one of the most impoverished parts of the center. Over 4 to 5 years all the projects will be finished; Amsterdam could be around the IJ like London around the Thames or Paris around the Seine.

The changing climate will positively stimulate the life along the upcoming IJ Boulevard in its own way. But whether the distance between the North and the center will get shorter, or whether the ferry trip will deliver the same pleasure as now, is difficult to assess. But nevertheless, nobody will call Amsterdam ‘a big village’ anymore.

A Visitors Guide to Brussels Belgium

Brussels is located in the center of Belgium, and acts as the countys capital. Some people refer to the city of Brussels as a municipality known as the Brussels-Capital Region. The Brussels-Capital region is the home to over 1 million people, and if you extend this to include the metropolitan area the population increases to just around 2 million people. All of these people make the Brussels-Capital Region the most highly populated in the country. In addition, all of these people go a long way in ensuring that Brussels will always be the financial and political center of the country. The main seat of the European Union is also occupied by Brussels. As you can see, Brussels is a very important region throughout Europe.

There is a language border that more or less separates the country of Belgium into two entities. The northern part of Belgium is Dutch speaking, where as the southern half is French speaking. There are parts of both sides that speak both languages, and the city of Brussels is the same way. Brussels is a bilingual city which allows for a more diverse culture and the ease of entry for a larger group of people.

If you are planning a trip to Brussels there are several attractions that you will not want to miss. In fact, there are so many things to see that you will want to plan your trip out very carefully. One of the most popular attractions in Brussels is the Grand-Place. This is thought to be one of the most breathtaking squares in the world. It is surrounded by old buildings such as the Hotel de Ville. Another top tourist destination in Brussels is the Royal Museum of Fine Arts. If you are in Brussels to soak up the culture this is a must see. The Royal Museum of Fine Arts is the best collection of art in Belgium, and thousands of people from all over travel to the museum on a yearly basis.

When it comes to the climate, Brussels is rather steady throughout the year. Temperatures reach their high during the month of July when they top out at an average of 70 degrees Fahrenheit. During the winter months the temperatures in Brussels usually dip down into the low 40s. This makes for a very consistent temperature year round. If you live in Brussels you never have to deal with extreme heat, or a lot of cold weather. As far as precipitation is concerned, Brussels usually averages between two and three inches a month; it can snow, but it is not a common occurrence or worry.

Transportation in Brussels includes several major train stations that connect Brussels to other large cities in the UK. In addition the Brussels National Airport makes it easy to fly in and out of the area.

Overall, traveling to Brussels will allow you to see a diverse culture. There are many popular tourist attractions in the area, and a transportation system that is top notch. If you have never visited Brussels you may want to put it on your short list.

Truly Yours in Venice of North

Amsterdam has something to offer everyone, from the shockingly perverted to the über-conservative. This is why it time and again ranks as one of Europe’s most popular city break destinations. Yet, like kebabs and Che Guervera T-shirts, the “crazy” weekend away in Amsterdam, is one of those student clichés that one might feel one is simply too unshakably cool to indulge in – this would be a shame. If ever a place was created for the young, the beautiful and the open minded, it is Amsterdam. This city simply oozes style and soul.

Renowned for its synthesis of vice and high brow culture, Amsterdam is a place of contradictions. It resists classification, combining world-renowned, laissez faire liberalism with a typical European homage to rules and regulations. This is a place where soliciting is legal, provided that one has the right paperwork. Wander down a street in Amsterdam and one will find baby clothing stores happily residing next to Rastafarian coffee shops. Galleries dedicated to sixteenth century art are only a tram ride away from museums plotting the history of porn. And shoe shops display ‘Hush Puppies’ alongside neon, plastic platforms.

It is quite true that Amsterdam might be famous for all things continental and controversial, but it is also too chilled out to care even if one is not. And although the red light district is well worth a visit, if only to point and laugh at the bizarre notion of consumerised copulation, there are plenty of other things to see and do in this historical and deliciously cosmopolitan Venice of the North.

Instead, one could visit Anne Frank’s house, or cruise along the pretty cat’s cradle of canals on a boat tour, or stroll around Dam Square to see the Royal Palace. If art is the thing of interest, then spend the morning with the Dutch masters in the famous Van Gogh gallery or Rijksmuseum, which houses works by Vermeer and Rembrandt, particularly his impressive masterpiece The Night Watch.

If one is feeling decadent, one could always visit one of the city’s numerous diamond factories and try on Elizabeth Taylor-esque jewellery that a person has absolutely no intention of buying. In addition, there are countless museums, ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous. And although the museums of sex, beer and marijuana tend to stand out in people’s minds for obvious reasons, it is also possible to receive a comprehensive education in Jewish history, anthropology, modern art or film. However, even traditional museums represent an unusual Dutch twist, the Maritime museum features the arm of a Dutch naval hero thoughtfully preserved in alcohol.

While visiting the Venice of North the best way to capture local color is simply on foot, loosing one in the city’s web of narrow streets, whilst picking up kitsch, bohemian bargains that would make Sienna Miller proud. In spite of the fact that Amsterdam could never market itself as a fashion capital, the city does have some lovely shops, even if in a quirky, ‘incense-burning-overkill’ kind of way. A trip to a local market is also a must see, especially a cheese market or the charming ‘bloemenmarkt’, Amsterdam’s famous, floating flower emporium. The Venice of North is joy to visit.

Margaret Beckett is Famous for Her Caravan Holidays

The Foreign Secretary was only installed in her high-profile job in May 2006. Margaret Beckett is supposed to be normal. She is happily married to Leo; she eats sweets in bed on Sunday mornings; and she likes caravanning holidays.

Presumably Margaret Beckett will be off on a caravanning holiday soon. Mrs. Beckett would be adhering to her traditional pattern of caravanning round France with her husband Leo for the summer now that parliament has broken up. The Foreign Secretary is to embark on a gastronomic tour of Europe in her caravan. Because she is now a player in international politics, for security reasons, the caravan will be escorted at all times by special branch officers on her caravan holiday to France although it is not clear whether they will be staying in the caravan.

It seems that the new Foreign Secretary has been forced to postpone her caravanning holiday around Europe with husband Leo, and it now looks politically impossible for her to take time off while the Middle East crisis rages on.

The Foreign Office is refusing to comment on reports that Mrs Beckett is postponing her caravan holiday while the crisis continues.

A spokesman said: “She is remaining engaged on this. She will go on holiday when she decides the time is right.”

The Becketts are taking their holiday in France every year. But she insists: “We’ve been caravanning in Britain lots of times. We took the van to the party conference in Blackpool one year. It poured with rain, but one of the things we like about a caravan is that you can just pull into the side of the road when you want a cup of tea and, even if it’s pouring, you’re under shelter.”

Margaret Beckett and her husband, Leo, recently bought a smart new van, with running water, a burglar alarm and very comfortable sleeping arrangements and Windsor Jacquard curtains. The minister says: “The new one has got a bigger sofa and a bigger fridge, reasonably plush fittings and very comfortable sleeping arrangements. We never say we go camping – we say we go caravanning, because I reckon when you’ve got a fridge, a shower, central heating, double glazing and a reasonable sized cooker, you can’t say you’re roughing it,”, laughing.

Mrs. Beckett says it can take days for the caravanner to prepare for a trip. “There’s always something broken and lots to restock.” “But, once on the road, the caravan is liberation.”

Gazing Into The Vail Lodging Crystal Ball

For your vacation, where should you stay? Which Vail Village lodging should you choose?

There are many options for you to choose from. Here are the best: hotels and motels offer clean rooms, with room service and can usually be configured for one, two, or three guests (with the addition of a cot)…and maybe even a family of four can squeeze in. Some come with kitchenettes and others do not.

If you’re planning on staying longer, consider renting a condo – available for people who are staying on any length of vacation but want the amenities of a home in their Vail Village lodging. Some condos, The Vail Spa, for example, come with heated indoor – outdoor swimming pools, jacuzzi’s, a workout room, internet service, plus other ammenities.

Another Vail Village lodging to consider is the rental of a home. Homeowners who do not live in Vail year-round occasionally choose to rent out their home to vacationers. You’ll have a great house to live in, along with the amenities of a home that you want (like a full kitchen as well as privacy and a back yard) sometimes you’ll also enjoy a deck, barbecue, and pool. These homes are ideal for the family that wants to spend time on their own or the large group of friends who won’t find as much enjoyment in each other’s company if they were in a hotel.

If you don’t want to stay in Vail, you can always stay at a Snowmass hotel or Snowmass inn or you can stay at an Antlers campground or Antler motel…which are small town a couple hours away. Other towns to consider include Aspen, Avon, Arrowhead, or Gypsum. All of these towns are basically found along (or just off of) the I-70… it’s very convenient!

There is Vail Village lodging for every size of group and for every budget. But what’s the secret to a successful trip? Book early!

So, you have your lodging. Remember, the perfect ski vacation is a ski vacation spent in Vail Colorado, on the eastern edge of Eagle County, Colorado. You’re right in the heart of the rugged Rocky Mountains and that means great skiing. How good is the skiing? SKI magazine said it was the best ski destination in North America…that’s a claim to fame that’s hard to beat!

So if you are an avid skier – or even a beginner with a passion for the slopes – Vail is the place to be this winter for some fast action on the slopes. Go to Vail and you’ll be blazing through the powdery snow. Take lessons to improve your ski skills and “graduate” from the Front Side where the beginners like to ski to the Blue Sky Basin where most average skiers find an enjoyable run. Perhaps you’ll hone your skills enough to make it all the way to the expert-level slopes that can be found in the Back Bowls.

You’ll fly into the Eagle County airport, which is in Gypsum, about 40 minutes away from Vail and when you get to Vail, you’ll drop off your stuff and head to the slopes.

Hilo Vacation Rentals

During past vacations, have you ever caught yourself wondering what it would be like to call a place like this home? You imagine the people who live here, and you think that they must be far more relaxed and happier than the average person. While most of us don’t have the means to just pick up and move to a tropical island paradise, you can do the next best thing by renting a vacation home that’s as unique as your own house and outfitted with just as many, if not more, amenities. Your upcoming trip to Hilo will serve as a fine first foray into the land of living like a permanent vacationer.

From the moment you step through the doorway of your tropical hideaway, you’ll know you made the right choice. High ceilings, wooden floors, ample sofa space and a perfect-sized dining table let you know you won’t be feeling claustrophobic. An especially big thrill is the kitchen; no more trekking down unfamiliar roads looking for a good restaurant. A quick trip to the grocery store will allow you to stock your pantry in preparation for a few easy meals, including the breakfast in bed your honey has promised you.

You’re already walking on air, and you haven’t even seen everything yet. Continue on to the master bedroom, where the whirlpool tub and walk-in closet prompt an involuntary smile to spread across your face. You imagine being able to shut the door after a day of hiking the lava park or biking through the rainforest for a one-on-one pampering session that no one else can disturb. This keeps getting better and better.

A lanai, that’s how you say “porch” when you’re off the mainland, stretches around two sides of your cottage, allowing for amazing views of the ocean and the evening sunset. Sit out here in the morning with your freshly brewed coffee, in the afternoon with the novel you finally have time to start, or at night for cocktail hour of your own design. You’ll probably never tire of the fresh breeze or the expansive view of the mountains and the sea, even if you were to stay here for the rest of your life.

Nearby activities in Hilo include swimming in the calm waters of Coconut Island, visiting the Pana’ewa Rainforest Zoo, catching an artsy film at the historic Palace Theatre, and taking a walking tour of the colorful downtown area. Be warned, however, that just like a local, the urge to stay home may often strike. Not that you won’t appreciate the lovely town, but when you have everything you’ve been craving right beneath your nose, the motivation to put on your shoes and go towards the crowd just doesn’t sound like a good idea.

Making it even more likely that you’ll have at least a couple of quiet nights at home is the full entertainment center and the game closet within your vacation rental. The sound of the TV may be unwelcome to you, but the sound of the whole family enjoying a game of cards or one of those board games that has everyone on their feet and shouting out the answers will be pretty priceless.

You’re probably getting the idea by now. Holing up in a vacation property will be pretty sweet, and while the Hilo locals probably have jobs and responsibilities just like you, you can imagine that you’re seeing life through their eyes as you rise each morning to the sight of the sun rising over the luscious forest. You’re all about immersing yourself in another culture, especially one that gets to call Hawaii its home, so get moving and start to plan your getaway from the same old, same old.

Go online to explore all the Hilo vacation rentals, and choose the one that looks like home to you.

Museum World of Vienna

Vienna’s museums, galleries and collections are world-famous. Housed in splendid imperial buildings on the Viennese Ring road the Museum of Fine Arts and the Natural History Museum captivate the visitor with their impressive exhibition objects. The collections in the Museum of Fine Arts were mainly assembled for centuries by the Habsburgers.

Habsburgers loved the Dutchmen Bruegel, Rubens, Van Dyck, the Venetians and Duerer. The surroundings of The “Art and Treasure Chambers” as well as the picture galleries give one the feeling, even today, of visiting a distinguished princely private collection. One becomes acquainted with the art and culture of the former emperors of Austria with a walk round the museums in their former living and function rooms: The Sissi museum, the art collections in the Belvedere castle, castle Schoenbrunn and the Hofburg still radiate the splendor of the Austrian monarchy.

The Museum of Applied Art exhibits fine craftsmanship, art and design from many epochs. Following the traces of the Viennese art nouveau period, the Secession from Otto Wagner is the most important sight of interest in the city. One is impressed not only by the golden domed roof, but also by the Beethoven frieze from Gustav Klimt. The slogan of the “The Association of Visual Artists Austria’s Secession”: “the time of their art – the art of their liberty”. Art nouveau, which affected not only architecture, but influenced all ranges of daily life, is inseparably connected with names, such as Otto Wagner, Josef Hofmann, Kolo Moser, Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Adolf Loos.

The Albertina collection, the Palace Liechtenstein and the numerous galleries of Vienna are further places to visit for culture-interested Vienna holiday-makers. The KunstHaus Vienna is accommodated in a house built by Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Beside works of the famous painter and architect one can also see drawings of modern art, photography and graphics.

Vienna has built a museum quarter that is one of the ten largest cultural districts in the world. It took a decade to be constructed.

The MuseumsQuartier Wien is a place where 20 autonomous artistic institutions, ranging from a creativity centre for children to a classical art museum, from headquarters for dance, film, architecture and theatre to forums for new media and art theatre. A surfeit of shops and restaurants surround the complex, which has also become the main venue for the Vienna Festival, the city’s foremost annual event.

World-class museums are found in the area which include the Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna’s premier exhibition space for international contemporary and modern art; the Leopold Museum, important for modern Austrian art, including the Secession, Viennese Modernism and Expressionism, as well being home to the largest collection of work by Egon Schiele; and the Museum Moderner Kunst, one of Europe’s largest collections of modern and contemporary art.

The area’s architecture represents a fusion of the original 18th-century buildings with modern work. The former were renovated by Manfred Wehdorn, while a separate team, Laurid Ortner, and were engaged for the latter. The aim is to provide physical and historic links between old and new, art and recreation, audience and architect. Vienna is one of the few European metropolises to have achieved harmony between ancient and modern in its cityscape.

Even though Amsterdam is not generally considered one of the world’s major cultural centers, the quality and quantity of music, dance and film on offer here are quite high. The reason for this can be the government’s long-term subsidy to the arts. With its exclusively youthful population, the city is at the cutting edge in many ways, though its strengths lie in the graphic arts and new media rather than the performing arts.

It can be said that there is something lacking in the Dutch performance, maybe it is their lack of daring nature or it can even be something to do with the stable and homogeneous nature of Dutch society, and its high standard of living. If one spends any time in Amsterdam one is bound to come across plenty of fringe and mainstream events, many of them spontaneous and entertaining. Amsterdam has a bevy of places which buzz a wide range of affordable entertainment and one will never find oneself at a loss for something to do.

As far as live music goes, Amsterdam is a regular halt for many major artists, and something of a testing ground for current rock bands. Until recently, Dutch rock and pop was almost uniformly dismal, but mercifully times have changed, and Dutch groups nowadays can lay claim to both quality and originality.

The Dutch folk music tradition in Amsterdam is virtually vanished, although interest has been revived of late by the new duo, Acda and de Munnik. There are still one or two touring folk singers who perform traditional smartlappen.

Aside from summer Sundays in the Vondelpark, Amsterdam doesn’t have many outdoor music festivals. The biggest events are the Drum Rhythm and Racism Beat. The festivals, usually held in May and August respectively, which are multi-venue extravaganzas attracting world-class acts, and for classical music. Aside from summer Sundays in the Vondelpark, Amsterdam doesn’t have many outdoor music festivals; the biggest events are the Drum Rhythm and Racism Beat It festivals, usually held in May and August respectively, which are multi-venue extravaganzas attracting world-class acts, and for classical music, the Grachtenfestival in the last week of August. Of the festivals outside the city, the most famous is the Pink Pop Festival in June, down in the south at the Draf en Renbaan in Landgraaf, near Maastricht. The Grachtenfestival held in the last week of August is another popular festival.

For jazz fans, Amsterdam can be a luxury. Since the 1940s and 1950s, when American jazz musicians began moving to Europe to escape discrimination back home, the city has had a soft spot for jazz. Chet Baker lived and died in Amsterdam, and he and any number of legendary jazzbos could once be found jamming in the events.

With the construction of the brand-new 50,000-seat Amsterdam ArenA out in the southeastern suburbs of the city, Amsterdam finally got the stadium rock venue it has desired for years. Another music concert hall is the Heineken Music Hall which is a simple but acoustically impressive black box, close to the ArenA, while the three dedicated music venues in Amsterdam city centre – the Paradiso, the Melkweg and the Arena are all much smaller, and supply a constantly changing seven-days-a-week program of music to suit all tastes. One can have a lovely time enjoying and relaxing with the music.

Go Hogging in the City of Water

Amsterdam due to its location and proximity to two of the premier beer-drinking nations in Europe – Belgium, where modern beer was more or less invented, and Germany, famous for its beer consumption, is a great city to go drinking in. As for eating, this may not be Europe’s culinary capital, but there’s a good choice of ethnic restaurants, especially Indonesian, Chinese and Thai, and the prices compared to other big-city standards are quite reasonable. Amsterdam’s tradition of cafes and bars serving adventurous food for a good price in a relaxed and modest setting is a huge advantage too.

Dutch mealtimes are a little eccentric. Breakfast tends to be later than what generally a person might expect, and other meals times are earlier than expected. If one chooses to eat breakfast out of the hotel, then very few cafes are open before 8 or 8.30am. The typical Dutch lunch hour is from noon to 1pm, and dinner time in most restaurants is between 7 and 8pm, quite a few restaurants stop serving by 10pm.

Though quite small in size, Amsterdam is filled with places to eat and drink. There is always somewhere convenient and enjoyable to suit everyone’s budget. Weekends tend to get busy so for eating out at a favorite joint it is advisable to have a booking or geo early before the rush hour. Throughout the city there are plenty of good restaurants scattered all over the city, and in much of the centre one can find a bar on almost every corner.

Dutch restaurant food has higher protein content than imagination. The staple diet is the steak, chicken and fish, along with filling soups and stews… Many places offer dagschotels – dish of the day, generally available for as long as the restaurant is open- a meat and two vegetable combinations.

A wide selection of vegetarian restaurants offer full-course set meals which are quite reasonable. Another inexpensive stand-by is Italian food – pizzas and pasta dishes start at a fairly uniform in all but the ritziest places. Chinese and Thai restaurants are also common, as well as the Spanish ones, all of which serve well priced, filling food. But Amsterdam’s real area of expertise is its Indonesian restaurants, a consequence of the country’s imperial adventures. One can eat nasi goreng and bami goreng meaning rice or noodles with meat are ever-present dishes, and chicken or beef in peanut sauce -sateh is available everywhere too. Alternatively, order a rijsttafel: boiled rice and/or noodles served with a number of spicy side dishes and hot sambal sauce on the side.

In bars one can get sandwiches and rolls frequently open and varying from a simple slice of cheese to something so overstated that it’s a complete meal – as well as more substantial fare. Dutch classics include broodje halfom, a roll with a combination of thinly sliced salted beef and liver eaten with mustard, and broodje warm vlees, thinly sliced warm pork served with sateh sauce. The way to eat in Amsterdam is through the local style. Though not what is one used to but certainly quite a tempting fare.

City On Water On the Move

Amsterdam is a compact, instantly likeable city. It’s appealing to look at and pleasing to walk around, a fascinating mix of the parochial and the international; it also has a welcoming attitude towards visitors and a uniquely youthful direction, shaped by the liberal counterculture of the last four decades. It attracts people to the buzz of open-air summer events, by the cheery intimacy of the city’s clubs and bars, and by the Dutch facility with languages. People in Amsterdam are able to speak good-to-fluent English, on top of their own native tongue, and often more than a smattering of French and German too.

The obvious contradiction of thoughts as well as behavior embodies much of the spirit of Amsterdam. The city is world famous as a place where the possession and sale of cannabis are effectively legal and yet, for the most part, people of Amsterdam themselves can’t really be bothered with the stuff. And while Amsterdam is renowned for its tolerance towards all styles of behavior and dress, a more correct-thinking big city, with a more proper dress sense, would be hard to find. Behind the cozy cafes and dreamy canals lurks the suspicion that people of Amsterdam hearts lie squarely in their wallets, and while newcomers might see the city as a liberal haven, locals are not bothered by these things.

Nonetheless, Amsterdam has not changed and still remains a casual and intimate place, and people of Amsterdam themselves make much of their city and its attractions being gezellig, which is used frequently by Dutch people roughly corresponding to a combination of “cozy”, “lived-in” and “warmly welcoming”. This feature is most apparent in the city’s unparalleled selection of drinking places, whether one selects a traditional brown bar or one of a raft of newer, designer cafes, or grand cafes. The city possesses dozens of great restaurants too, with its Indonesian cuisine second-to-none, and is at the forefront of contemporary European film, dance, drama and music. The city has several top-rank jazz venues and the Concertgebouw concert hall is home to one of the world’s leading orchestras. The club scene is restrained by the standard of other main cities, although the city’s many gay bars and clubs partly justify Amsterdam’s claim to be the “Gay Capital of Europe”.

Confined by the circuitous sweep of the Singelgracht canal, Amsterdam’s compact centre contains most of the city’s leading attractions and only takes about forty minutes to stroll from one end to the other. The Old Centre remains Amsterdam’s commercial heart, with the best of its bustling street life. It also holds myriad shops, bars and restaurants, includes the Red Light District, just to the east of Damrak, and contains dozens of fine old buildings, most memorably the Oude Kerk, the Amstelkring and the Koninklijk Paleis.

The Old Centre is bordered by the first of the major canals, the Singel, which is followed closely by the Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht – collectively known as the Grachtengordel, or “Girdle of Canals”. These canals were part of a major seventeenth-century urban extension and, with the interconnecting radial streets, form the city’s distinctive web shape. This is Amsterdam’s most delightful area having handsome seventeenth-and-eighteenth-century canal houses, with their distinctive gables, overlooking narrow, dreamy canals: a familiar image perhaps, but one that is still entirely authentic.

Gift Baskets for Mom Birthday Ideas

There are among us those delightful ladies known as mothers that need our focus at least once a year on their birthday. The question regarding what to give will inevitably be on our minds before this annual event comes around. So what’s a plan to make this job easier? Gift Baskets for Mom birthday ideas is the correct answer, my friends!

Why, you ask? Well, with this option there is a wide variety of themes to choose from that would be within the broad realm of Lady-dom which includes those under the subcategory of “Moms”. So, after the realization that Moms are, indeed, ladies we can then deduce that such Moms would enjoy gifts generally deemed favorable to ladies. Agreed? Let’s move on.

The first question naturally is….What do ladies like? The next question is….Is there a Gift Baskets for Mom birthday idea that I could send that could cover these bases? We can answer both with the declaration that there are gift baskets that cover themes that ladies love such as bath and spa, gardening, golf, movies, picnics and other favorite pastimes as well. Let’s examine this a bit further.

Does dear ‘ol Mum have a unique fondness for gourmet food or the world’s most delectable chocolates? Would she beam with mouth-watering anticipation after presented with an assortment of Italian Food? Is she a connoisseur of top-shelf coffee or tea delicacies? Would a more daring spicy theme be appropriate or, conversely, a heart-healthy or sugar-free one? The good news is that there are Gift Baskets for Mom birthday ideas having these themes as well.

Would Mom enjoy (or deserve) a dash of good natured ribbing after another year of gracing this world with her presence? There is an “Over the Hill Birthday Basket” that would keep the juices of the family’s sharp wit flowing all the more. Nothing wrong with a little jest now and then to keep everything in perspective, eh?

Take the advice of aGiftBasketParadise.com (hint) and go to a worthy online purveyor of gift baskets and choose one with the theme that fits your Mom. Use your typing skills and tap in the requested shipping, billing and safe credit card information. Let it happen for the lady that made it all happen for you!

Perfect Anniversary Gift Ideas

When people hear the word “anniversary” the first thing that comes to their mind is usually a wedding anniversary. While it is true that webbing anniversaries are a very important time and the more of them that commemorate a wedding the more important they become in western culture due to a relatively high divorce rate.

However; due to the fact that people love to commemorate and celebrate events more and more people are toasting anniversaries of more and more things such as simple friendships. Giving a personalized anniversary gift is a great way to mark a time that one feels should be recognized and depending on the event any one of a number of gifts can be given.

For a first wedding anniversary gift a good idea is to mark the occasion with something simple yet thoughtful, such as flowers and a nice card. When parents reach special anniversaries such as their 25th or even their 50th it is a time for the whole family to get involved in the celebration. Matching watches with a personalized inscription are a great gift for parents who have reached a special anniversary.

Another great idea is to celebrate your anniversary at a new job that you have. By commemorating this time you can help to secure your position in a place of employment if you like working there. A one year anniversary at a job can be celebrated but you don’t want to make a big deal about your first month.

Personalized cakes are a great way to help commemorate any anniversary and there are lots of places online that can help you out with this. There are other online businesses as well that can help you with all aspects of recognizing and commemorating an anniversary no matter what type of anniversary it is.

The Concepts in Personalized Gifts

There are several ways that a gift can be purchased and given, such as when a group of people in an office chip in to buy a gift as a group. Also a gift my be given anonymously, such as at Christmas time when one might present a wrapped package as a “ gift from Santa”. Then there is the personalized gift which carries a personal touch from the sender.

One important part of a personalized gift is a card that should be included in with the gift that has a hand written personal message. The importance of a card cannot be over emphasized, because with many gifts it is only the card that will personalize the gift.

This is because, while many gifts can be personalized with some type of personal inscription such as books or some types of jewelry. Many things such as candy can’t be inscribed. It is also for this very reason that when making the selection of a personalized gift, it helps to pay close attention to how the gift will be personalized.

Many retailers will help to personalize a gift when it is purchased, such as jewelers who also often do inscribing free of charge. Stores that specialize in candy many times have some sort of gimic that they offer for customers who wish to personalize a gift of candy and many times they can be quite clever.

It is important to remember that once a gift item has been personally inscribed or decorated it can’t be returned, so it helps to make absolutely sure that the gift is something that the recipient can use and doesn’t already have. One way around this is, if for instance, it is a piece of jewelry the gift can first be given and then it can then be taken back to the jeweler to be personally inscribed.

Coffee and Tea Gift Baskets Give the Buzz

The number of people who do not begin their day with a cup of coffee or tea are a distinct minority based on my years of observation. This opens the door to an idea that can come in handy during the travails of Christmas shopping. Why not consider coffee and tea gift baskets as possibilities for those that you know who relish the aroma and taste of either of these commodities?

There are aficionados on both sides that would agree to this wholeheartedly. There is a bounty of different flavors that could excite the palates of any enthusiastic fan of either alternative. Coffee and tea gift baskets can contain diverse selections of not only the main attractions but munch-able goodies to complement them as well. There may well be other companions with the deal including books or CD’s within the basket. These benefits alone are sufficient to consider the purchase of this type of gift.

How about the actual basket itself? These are designed to attract the eyes and are even suitable for the décor of certain rooms within the home. The coffee and tea gift baskets can, therefore, be two gifts in one. There can be a lasting value to this offering long after the last coffee bean or tea bag has sadly run out. The impact can be felt both with the taste buds and the eyes with these treasures. There certainly are long and short term practicalities with this idea.

Think about those you know that have a oneness with their cup o’ joe in the morning or throughout the day. You know that a basket packed with gourmet coffee and delicious treats would be a no-brainer gift idea. Pleasant thoughts of you would pass through their mind after each sip of mind expanding and energizing paradise.

Your social status would certainly rise within the sophisticated tea crowd after granting one of its members a basket full of this precious substance. You would certainly give them exactly what living is all about to them. You would also state quite clearly that you know about the finer things in life and would like to share it with someone worthy of such.

Coffee and tea gift baskets can be your route to shopping for precisely the right gift to give this Christmas and any other occasion as well. Take the advice of aGiftBasketParadise.com and give the best gift while using the least amount of your valuable time!

Christmas Stocking Fillers- a Great Alternative to One Large Present

With Christmas comes a range of traditional acts that celebrators of this festive occasion follows: Christmas Turkey dinner, putting up a Christmas Tree and of course giving and receiving Christmas presents. The latter of giving and receiving Christmas presents can come in the form of a traditional Christmas stocking filled with a whole variety of small presents, otherwise known as Christmas goodies.

In this short article I will give my 5 reasons why I think Christmas Stocking fillers make a great alternative and addition to one larger present.

1) Christmas Stockings can be filled with almost anything, from sweets, novelties to small toys & games. You will not be lost for choice when it comes to finding gifts to fill the stocking.

2) Stocking fillers themselves can be made up of low value items and hence does not need to cost the earth. Having a good range of cheaper items can make up for the cost of one large present.

3) Kids (and many adults in fact) love to wake up on Christmas morning to see a wonderfully decorated Christmas stocking hanging at the end of their beds. Their face will light up when they look inside the stocking to see a delightful range of gifts and goodies.

4) When you really do not know what to buy someone, because they are classified as ‘the person who has everything’, the novelty of having a stocking full of ‘bits and bobs’ can overcome that risk where one large present may be not what they want or that they already have.

5) It will save you time (and money) wrapping the individual gifts, as the Stocking itself, by default, will act as the gift wrap.

These are my 5 reasons why I think Christmas Stocking fillers make a great alternative or addition to one large present.

Christmas Shopping for Presents- How to Best the Rush When Shopping Online

Christmas has always been a time of joy and celebration. Shopping for Christmas presents has always been part of this and for most, this can be a rather stressful part of Christmas. It is the time of year where you are not only buying just the one gift for that one occasion, such as a birthday or an anniversary, but it is the time of year, when you may have a dozen people to buy for. In this short article, I want to give some of my suggestions to how you can minimise this stress.

Start early and plan ahead- this may seem an obvious suggestion, but you will be surprised at how many of us still fall victim of ‘last minute shopping’ syndrome. I can not stress enough that if you plan ahead and start your Christmas shopping early, this is the one of the most important factors in alleviating that stress. Planning ahead does not mean that you need to in fact do any shopping at all. I would suggest you do the following to plan ahead:

- make a list of all the people you need to buy for and ask each person to give you a wish list of what they would like. Look for good shopping sites that have the wish list function. A ‘wish list’ feature, as the names implies, allows the recipient to send through to you a list of gifts they like.

- while you are surfing the net for inspiration, make a point of book marking sites and products that you would go back to and shop at. This will save you a huge amount of time at a later stage.

Buy and receive your goods early- It would be wise to beat the shopping rush in the 2 weeks leading up to Christmas, where literally hundreds of thousand of items are being put through the postal system, hence a much higher chance of delay or even good lost in the post. Why get caught up in all that?

Make the most of gift wrap service- for a nominal fee, there are many online shops who offer a gift wrap service. This can do wonders to easing the time you have to spend on gift wrapping all your presents. In order to save on cost, you may even chose to have some of your gifts wrapped and the others to be done yourself- as the saying goes, every little helps.

These suggestions really are simple, often obvious, but yet effective ways to beat the rush and stay ahead!

Happy Christmas Shopping to you all!

The Gift of Experience; Christmas

Perhaps your dad would prefer something a little more memorable than a woolly jumper this year? In an age where people are looking for the ultimate gift, more and more are turning away from the traditional Christmas kitsch, and instead giving the gift of memories to friends and families rather than just material possessions.

Gift experiences can cover a vast range of activities, which means that there is a suitable experience for everyone, from toddlers to teenagers, young guys to grannies, mothers and babies; there are even gift experiments tailored especially for couples or for the entire family.

If you’re buying for a adrenaline-seeker you have plenty of choice as there are now hundreds of experiences which are bound to suit even the most hardened action man; paintball, white water rafting, a day’s go-karting or bob-sleighing; even a microlight flight. The price of gift experiences can cost as little as £25, but can go up to several thousands of pounds for the most unusual and extravagant events.

Basic activities such as paintball are a great value option, but if you’re really looking to impress, a complete package can be built that encompass some very special experiences. How about a helicopter tour over London, or hiring a Harley Davidson motorbike for the day? Perhaps you’d prefer to drive a Ferrari or an Apache Off-Road Racer, or take to the sky in a Champagne Balloon flight?

But Christmas gift experiences aren’t just for the boys. Ladies will enjoy spa and pampering days, photo makeovers, even the chance to design your own handbag. And who says that the girls won’t enjoy a day on the race track too?

There can also be a potential environmental benefit to giving a gift experience rather than material possessions. With an experience there tends to be no wasted wrapping paper or unwanted packaging, and your gift won’t just ending up stuffed into the back of a cupboard, never to see the light of day again. Saying that – a fast and furious driving experience or a ride in a fighter plane is likely to come with a significant carbon footprint, but you can of course select greener experiences if you wish.

So – this Christmas, why not give a memory, (rather than a pair of socks) to your friends and family, and join the growing trend of gifting experiences.
